When is T-Wall gonna get big time sponsors?

First off don't get all pissy cause you love his current "core" sponsors, but lets be real they aren't BIg Time, with Big money.

So this year was really his "breakout year" with his winning the dew tour at N* and invitation to JOSS.   I think he is now officially recognized as one of the top ten skiers in the game now. His commersical appeal is undeniable.  So when is he gonna get a deal with a big outerwear and NRG drink company? 

Do you think he still has to prove he will stay at a high level; he has only been "the king of steeze" for what like 2 1/2 years?  


I think he will keep amplid cause he has input in the skis.  he should keep keep Fulltilt no explanation neccessary.  keep spy.  but try to pick up everything else.   

Imagine if Sessions picked up wallisch and made the "hyphy" suit.  kids would go nuts.

True, the economy does suck.   But i think a smart buisness move would be to drop a highly paid "big name" that doesn't have much commercial appeal, or replace a recently deceased big name skier with tom.  he would instantly create interest in that company, for a relativly low price. 


For the people asking why would he drop sweet protection:  they don't pay shit.  I imagine Tom is trying to make a carreer out of skiing, not just scrape by.

have you ever thought... maybe he doesnt want the huge sponsors. maybe he doesnt like oakley. maybe he likes having the small name companys. my guess is he doesnt have a clothing sponsor because then he can wear waht he wants. so he can always have the most gangster ass shit!!! ya dig

I dunno man his current sponsors are pretty sick. Sweet make the nicest helmets. His skis are sick too.

I think the brands that he represents are better core brands for newschoolers. They are all up and coming companies (unlike sal, rossi etc.) They are underground!

doesn't anyone think he might actually want to get PAID by his sponsors?   not just hooked up with free shit.  its not selling out its making a living.  hell why not be sponsered by toyata and get a free care plus salary, that would be dope. 

Most of his sponsors are small time and can't afford to pay a salary to there team members.

Legit, sure. But small companies don't have the money to pay athletes as much as the likes of corporate monsters like Oakley ect.

why does it matter? just wondering.

a skier, especially one who is as good as wallisch shouldn't want Oakley (example) or Armada (another example) because they are considered "big names." If a skier likes that company and they can get sponcermasized by them then thats great. if you can get hooked up with a company that you feel like you can represent well and they treat you well and you like their gear than you should be extremely happy.

say i sent a "sponsor me" tape to armada (ex.) and a much smaller or new company that needed representation, and armada turned me down but the other company didn't. BUT when i started skiing on these skis i HATED them and they gave me 1 pair of skis per year even when they broke.
so now i have the choice of getting free shitty skis or buying my other ones that i love.

so i kind of made a couple different points.
1) let wallnutz decide what he wants to do and who to sign with.
2) a skier should sign with a company they like who cares if it's a "big name" or not.
3) and it's your choice, some people would, or might have to take the free skis while others could get sponsored by the smaller company but they would rather ski with a pair of skis they like.

Its not that simple.    He needs $$$ in his pocket so he can focus on skiing, pay off college debt,  and live comfortably without taking a side job like most "B" list skiers.  So yeah if oakley offered him 50k a year to wear their stuff then im sure he would take it. 

whether you like it or not money plays the biggest role when it comes to deciding what sponsers to pick up when you are a legit pro. 

Otherwise you analogy works well for the up and comer trying to get sponsered.

He is not going anywhere with outerwear, Sweet is paying him well now and they are going to be paying him a lot more next season from what I hear.  The only change he may make is on the skis.  Some of the bigger companies want him pretty badly I hear, and I doubt Amplid can match what they will offer.  You can count on him with Spy, Jiberish, Full Tilt, and Sweet though I would guess.

im not sure how old he is but he still has a lot of time left for that stuff. he seems like a guy that is trying to keep it underground and not sell out.

but anyways im willing to bet that the first major freestyle ski videogame will be a tom wallisch one. like tony hawks or shawn white. anyone think im on the right track haha?

I agree with your point about Sweet- people in North America may not consider them to be a big brand, but in Scandinavia and the rest of Europe they certainly are. They sell a lot of helmets, which are some of the best on the market. Their outerwear is dope, Wallisch is HUGE in Scandi-land so I reckon their relationship is a good one for both parties.

As for Amplid, and bigger brands wanting him, with more financial muscle, I wouldn't be so sure. Having spoken to one or two people recently involved in ski manufacturing, it's the big brands that are really struggling in this financial downturn. The gap between small ski makers and big ones is shrinking, rapidly, plus Tom gets a big say in Amplid ski development, so I would be surprised if he went elsewhere.

tom is actually really happy with his current sponsors, there smaller and work with him alot better than say salomon could, all he really needs is an energy drink, other than that dont be suprised if he stays where he his

few things

first, small time sponsers you get to work with a lot more than if you were with huge names

second, his sponsers right now are so sick, amplid- sickest skis ever, full tilt- sickest boots, spy-super sick goggs, sweet- nicest looking helmets i have seen, then jiberish makes some banging hoodies

i think that he is set for a while with the things he has

the problem with that is it is not accessible. period.
unless you have over $1,000 to drop on pants/jackets, then you will never even touch a piece of Sweet outerwear.

sadly they don't realize who people like henrik and t wall and horneback are. it's truely a shame that all people outside the ski scene only pay attention to the x games winners.

Most of you who have replied that he should stay "underground" or "core" must not have experienced the real world yet. Life costs money! Big sponsors pay money. I'm guessing this guy would rather make money from the skiing he already does than go pro as a construction worker or some shit like that.

Tom is more inflencial than a lot of athletes that get paid much more than him. Unfortunately he's 21 or older now and there are lots of athletes with the same sklls yet still 4+ years before they're his age. So if you were a sponsor where would you put your money? On a dude that's been influencial the past few years with a few years left before being out schooled if not already by up and comers or a kid with similar talent and years ahead of him to become as influencial as Tom to promote your company while being on top of the game? If the economy wasn't such crap right now it would be easier to find a company willing to to spend it on Tom. These days no one's got money no matter who you are. Anyone with a job or athlete contract should be crossing their fingers and praying it doesn't get eliminated. Rossi laid off 30% of their employees and most of their team. I'm sure Salomon is right behind them and look at Coreupt, they're already being foreced to sell their skis in the first year at 40%off just to be able to pay the bills. The financial sky is falling and the best thing an athlete can do right now is hold on tight to what they got, and pray the relationship is stronger than the guy that writes the checks. It's always greener on the other side bro.
