Dumb habit on rails...

So I slide left foot forward but I spin right. Whenever I'm just getting on to a rail and sliding it normally I either dont get a full 90 on or I slide off the left side (the way I spin to get on). If I'm doing any tech on the rail at all I'm totally fine, its only when I'm just hopping on normally, and sliding with no tech or anything.

any tips on how to stop this? its pretty annoying

Wider stance, more speed, really focus on popping well and going full 90 on. Other than that, just practice.

I posted this awhile back. Probably should have stuck it on Ski Gabber. The other reason this is a cool way to fix that problem is that you can feel where your foot is on the rail with shoes on. It's just a great way to practice getting your feet set right.

how do you get on? strait on or from the side. if you come from the side then it will be harder to slide off and if you do its just the angle of your skis and the amount of pop you have. if your coming strait on then your probably poping off one foot more the the other try to position the rail more to your left and pop off your heals instead.

ok thanks for the advice. and although it does happen sometimes getting on from the side, im talking mostly about getting on straight, so ill think about that stuff. especially maybe that im popping with one foot more

Try to widen your stance when you're sliding longer rails.

If you're getting on "straight", try to line up the rail with your right ski (assuming you are sliding left foot forward) when you are coming in. You're going to be pivoting over your right shoulder and the right ski is the one that is going to be stable when you're sliding. That's what works for me. You'll learn to slide rails properly quite quickly if you start to hit urban style setups where you're forced to get on "correctly." Plus, they're the most fun.

Sounds like your popping off one foot more than the other as other people have said. When you are doing tech you probably are focusing on getting more pop then when you just hop on straight so you use both equally. Also, practice, practice, practice

approach the rail at a slight angle, ollie off your tails, keeping your feet doing the same thing as one another, that way your momentum locks you on

what everyone else has said is right on....pop withboth feet.....wide stance....good speed...commit.....

but also try this....pick something next to the rail...say like the trees along the trail...or another rail...and when you get on make sure you square up and face your shoulders directly at it....so pop look and square up...then look to the end of the rail....this is how most people learn to do rails...at least its how i teach it...and when we get to comfy on rails sometimes we get lazy on this part which can lead to the problem you are having! good luck dude! practice makes perfect!!! keep working at it! you'll get it!
