First dslr camera?

So I need some help to pick out a dslr camera, I want a dslr camera that will be good for everything, and I don't want to drop a ton of money since I don't plan on making this my only hobby.

What it would mainly be used for would be bmx, mtb, and skiing in the winter so actions shots and sequence photos, but I also would like to take still photos like landscape since theirs alot of nothing around my school. Also I like making HDR photos so I don't know if that has any effect either on choice.

I would like to stay under $800 if that is possible, too

i would probably go with a canon rebel XSi, great camera for the price. can do all of the things you mentioned.

Nikon d40 is always a good choice and you can get them for around $400. I personally like canon, if you have a little more to spend you can get a 30d for around $600 or a 40d for around $750...just check around. Craigslist has good deals usually.

any of the canon rebel's are great low budget dslr's some may exceed your budget however, also the nikon D40 and D60 are good choices

I got the Nikon D5000 (Same as d40 and D60 basically with video).  Takes great pics like the D90 but outgrew it VERY quickly.  Sold it and picked up a Canon 30D and couldn't be happier.
