so i heard that armada signed a contract to have all there skis made by elan next year, and elan sucks. wonder if they thought about that before sealing the deal

Considering that you weren't able to use the correct form of 'HERE' in that last sentence, I'm pretty sure your info is shit. Elan eh? Last time I checked, Elan's stuff was made in Slovakia, and if not there, then somewhere else in Europe. I'm also pretty sure that Armada's stuff is made in a factory in Quebec, which, last time I checked, is more cost effective considering that a HUGE chunk of their business is done in North America. Got any more quality info for NS?

Just looking at it, it didn't seem to make sense, taking a whole bunch of stuff into consideration. Assuming(pretty safe assumption) that Elan manufactures somewhere in Europe, it would have to be SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper for the skis to be made there, to make up for the increased shipping costs alone. Having an idea of what kind of materials go into an Armada ski(Thanks for the product video guys!), and having a good rough idea of what it actually costs to build a ski, extra shipping costs(significant considering that skis would now have to go over the atlantic), and the possible inventory problems it would create,it seems unlikely. It's possible, but again, seems unlikely. Oh shit, I just might have said something semi-inteligent in there.

Next question: Would it be a bad thing?

^Yes, it would be a bad thing, until elan proves that they're capable of producing a ski that doesn't blow goats. I don't believe it at all though.

shipping costs are nothing compared to the costs of operating in north america. Considering that i'm sure the materials are just as readily available in europe as they are here, and that capital and labour is a whole lot cheaper in some of those eastern countries and that the fact that since elan already ships their stuff over, i'm sure that adding (relatively) a few pairs of armadas to their shipment wouldnt cost that much extra, i think it's deffinetly viable.

the elan airtwist sucked BUT elan in general kicks ass. Elan is the world's largest snowboard manufacturer by a large margin. Chances are if you ride a snowboard, it was made in Elan's factory for that company. Second, elan also manufactures yachts in addition to skis, I cant think of any other ski company that would have more knowledge about compostites. Third, elan sponsors Davo Karnicar, who was the first dude to ski Everest continuously in 2000 and is only 2 mountains away from skiing the highest peaks in every continent, he eats pieces of shit like Tanner Hall for breakfast. So unless your name is Hans Kammerlander and you've skied Everest, dont bash elan, unless you are talking about the airtwist, which was a shitty ski unfortunately.

armada will get elan to make their shit, but armada will tell elan what to do, armada is only using their factory, there not just taking an elan ski and putting armada on it.

ps. i have no idea if armada is using elans factory, this is just what they would do..

armada is rider oriented enough that they aren't willing to screw the people who buy their skis, and since they have made a good name for themselves this early on, they will try hard to hold up that quality.

I can gaurante i have been skiing longer than you and have seen more shitty elan products than i care to talk about. I have skied and seen other skis elan makes besides the air trix and they are ALL just as horrible. Basically id never buy an armada ski if elan starts producing them

No I guarantee I have been skiing since you were at your mothers teet and elan is like any other company, if you ski their low-end shit, yeah the quality just isnt there, their high end skis have always been a cut above everything else. People have always bitched elan has no pros, I'm just telling you that they do. And unlike other manufacturers, they released the Everest skis to the public, not just to their team. My elans got a woodcore, 2 FULL sheets of titanium, torsion bars, and a woven aluminum-fibreglass mat with sandwich construction, thats built better than any twin on the market, which will use stringers of carbon or titanuim at the most and otherwise simple wood or foam with 3d fibreglass. Elan just doesnt market to park rats and I cant blame them, I wouldn't want to put up with you whining, fickle, foul-mouthed little shitheads either, damanding refunds when your skis delam after you go skitchin down a dirt road.

correct me if im wrong, but about a month ago wenrt there a whole bunch of threads here that were all complaining about their armadas delaminating. from the sounds of it armadas wenrnt that good to begin with. perhaps this move to elan will help. elan does make shit skis though, so who knows.

i don't know whether this guy is right or wrong about armada, but to the guy who said most of armada's market is in north america so therefore it would be more cost effective to produce in north america, take into consideration the difference in labor and production costs between eastern europe and north america. once again, i don't know anything about any truth to this thread

First, there is a reason most American goods are made overseas - shipping costs pale in comparison to labor costs in NA.

Second, all that matters about a factory is there ability to impliment technology and their manufacturing tolerances. I know that American ski brands have take their manufacturing to China, dropped there per unit cost and made their tolerances much tighter - that makes things cheaper and better for you.

Forum snowboards were made in the Elan factory with horrible results, but that had more to do with their tech than the factory. Obviously Armada is a young company with a lot of smart people behind it, so you can all assume that they have thought through any manufacturing decisions extensively.

Moving Armada production to an Elan factory really wouldn't be that bad, especially if they don't change how the ski is made. Just becuase it's made in an Elan factory doesn't mean the ski will suck now. It will actually be a good thing. The cost of producing the ski will be much lower, because the overhead costs will be lower, as well as the labor costs. Shipping isn't going to be so much more just because it's overseas. The lower overhead and labor will more than make up for the increased shipping. If they keep the ski construction the same the quality will be there. The price of the ski might drop too because with Elan's size they would be able to make more at a relatively cheaper cost.

^ as someone said earlier most of the top snowboard companies also have there boards made in Elan's factory. Not everysingle company has tere own factory, that would cost them a fortune, check it out, there only a couple major manufactoring plants worldwide, and are shard among different compnaies, this will no way affect quality of products since it still armada, not elan controlling products. They just use the plant like everyone else. Oh and by the way and elan mantis series are sweet ass skis,

I don't get how people think they will become a worst ski because they are associated with elan. I have to agree elan has its roots deep in the industry. just because armada moves to the elan factory doesnt mean they will change the construction. there not going to become airtwists or anything.

lines are made in the karhu factory i believe, but that doesnt mean they are karhu skis. just because armada is made in the elan factory, that doesnt mean they are elan skis. plus elan does make some good skis, like 221 said

Volkl skis are made by Elan, and if you've rode on the V-Pros or Gotamas, or V-Explosives you know they're absolutly ski skis, and ride nothing like Elans. Just because a ski is made in the Elan doesn't mean it will be even close to the same materials/core/sidecut/ect.......

He's right Armadas were being made by Rome snowboards but next year by ELAN, actually if any of you have had to send your skis back to Armada, including myself you've gotten skis made out of elan factories bach. In my eyes they still ride the same. And what makes you all want to flip out anyways and bash this kid in the first place ya'll didnt know where they were being made either. Its not so top secret either just who you know. Anyways Armada did this in the best interest of their riders. If im gonna buy a 600 dollar bill ski I want one that will hold up and Elan has been in the bizz awhile...Rome hasnt and I guarentee half of you guys havnt even had the balls to ride an Elan ski. I didnt until I got my new Armadas. So ONE LOVE

Fuck tanner hall and everyone else on armada. they couldn't cut it for a year so they sold the fuck out. a lot of people rode or liked armada simply for the image that came along with it. and they image can't come out of an elan factory. You don't see salomon trying to act like they are a core company by the riders, because people will call them on that bullshit. but hey, I guess Armada can do it because they figure you groms are too stupid to see past the name.

so let me get this straight - since armada is having there skis built using the same materials, same technology, but different location means that the company founders sold out?? please. All that this means is that the skis will be produced for less money which means that you will pay less money for the ski. you make it sound like in order to be a rider owned company tanner has to be slaving away in the factory making every ski. go get a life.
