actually proposing a video game

u should have to scope out shit in the city to hit in order to pick up different sponsors and stuff. u should be able to hit anything so u can progress, instead of selected rails or gaps. and u have to worry about cops and inruns. and u should pick mountains that no one has skied before. you should be able to pick mountains that arent skiable as well, and you get injuries. i always thought it would be sweet to have a game dependant on the choices you make. like if you get injured, you're out for the season. and there cant be weed and stuff. although that would be sweet, the compaines wouldnt go for it. it would be cool if there was a situation for one of the comps that another rider offers u a drink and u gotta ski the comp drunk (like the mission in GTA 3, where u gotta drive drunk).

i sent an email to MSP, Armada and Line requesting their support for a ski game, not money just their names, we need a solid proposal for a game like the one lanks proposed just more detailed. I will try to contact more companies.

Did harvey ever get back to you on the petition forum idea? That would give this idea credibilty to the ski companies.

MSP responded today, they said they would support the game and to tell them what they could do. i'm gonna contact more companies. does someone want to make a detailed proposal for the game?

someones posted about getting injured and stuff, it would be sick to have like a hole season in the game with, pipe comps, slopestyle comps, filmsessions etc, and it would take a while killing a hole season like in the NHL games.

my finals are done this week. when i said i was going to propose the idea to activision last year i meant it, i'd really like to work on some ideas, my friend and i spent a lot of time last year riding the chairs talking about it.

i think that to create something thats going to be really successful you need to look at whats currently hitting it. obviously tony hawks underground. i haven't played it yet so i don't know but it looks huge and very detailed. as well somebodies gotta take a look at mad trix again and make note of everything that blew about that game. at the same time, skiing is a unique sport with a lot of disgustingly good and passionate athletes backing the sport, it progresses and adapts as necessary, therefor i have no doubt that with the right minds behind it a truly unique game can be created.

i agree but i think the Amped format would work better for skiing then tony hawk, so i think we should propose to activision

I think the best way is to talk directly to the big studioe. Like Microsoft and EA and Activision. As long as they get the idea that there is already a small base audience and then all of the other skiers out there they might put thought into it. All you have to do is send them companies who are inteested in the game and reminders of the XGames and such. I think all the details will come from them working with athletes etc... So, get an email out to game companies explaining the need for a skiing game and the game will come.

To most people, skiing has a fag label still... they dont' see it as the 'cool' thing to do like snowboarding or skateboarding... Plus peoples styles these days are either punk or i wanna be black... So, for a ski game to become big.. there needs to be a halfpipe comp in the olympics... and more people are gonna have to realize that skiing is cool and has more style and coolness than snowboarding... The game would take place mainly online as a community type game-think newschoolers with all the forums and chat. You then select join game and join games of 1-64 players. The game will have many options, you can be a park builder and edit the park on that server and create rails and hits for the other players to try out, or you could have games of horse or best run with other skiers,(if you want you can just freeski and sesh). You get a win/loss record for playing against other riders, and the best ranked riders of the week get to take place in a weekly x games like event for unique equipment and sponsors. The better you do, the more sponsors you get and you get a wider selection of clothes and skis. The skiing controls are very much like amped, as is the selection of clothing. A good idea of the community im talking about is in the game tribes 2 for PC, which has chat and forum features. If it were possible, you could also create custom equipment and logos, to start your own clothing company to gain money. Money will be used to buy better ski stuff and new gear.

I quickly skimmed this, so excuse my ignorance.

A petition will not work. How many names would it get? 500? 1000? 5,000? All very insignificant numbers.

I think that if you really want a game made, you have two options:

1. Make it yourself (like the fakie flair challenge, but taken up a couple notches...)

2. Propose to a company with:

a. A DETAILED outline of the game. This would have to include everything such as 'story line', controls, blah blah blah.

b. An even more detailed market research document. I'm not talking 'I went on Newschoolers and a lot of people want a game.' You have to outline and project exactly how many people will buy the game, in what areas, etc. This is a very expensive venture as to do it right, and make it presentable, you would probably have to hire a professional research firm to do it.

Game companies couldn't care less about skiing or anything but money. You have to convince them as if you're convincing a grand jury that they will make money by making the game. Anything else is child's play and they won't even spend the time telling you 'no'.

whomever said that career idea would be sick, with the actual competitions to enter in and such and have liek progression points/skill points extra for learning tricks bla bla bla. but the graphics and gameplay of Amped would be better than teh gameplay of tony hawk. in amped you can control the style of your tricks more and rotate on whichever axis you want unlike in hawk where you have to hit a combo of buttons to get the off axis stuff. If it had teh game play of Amped 2 that would be really awesome.

Everyone keeps saying noone will make it because skiing isnt cool. Well guess what? Snowboarding wasnt really the cool thing either when Coolboarders came out. They just made a game that was fun to play. Now look where snowboarding games are. If someone make a decent skiing game that is really fun to play, more people will play it, and more companies will look at making a better version.

Our best shot at successfully producing a game would be to make the story line original. We would need a story line that makes a skiing game so much better than Amped or Tony Hawk. That is when a company will buy into your idea.

alright fellow newschoolers ive written a convincing little intro for our big proposal. now what we need is a plot. lets please focus on the plot of the game and nothing else for the moment because without a sick storyline this game proposal will suck balls. lets not make it like tony hawks underground, its been done right? we need something totally original that will catch the eyes and ears of a video game studio. this game going into the works or not, is going to hinge on our storyline and nothing else.

To whom it may concern,
In the last decade skiing has transformed itself from a bland sport dominated by soccer moms and guys wearing one-piece neon suits to a youthful, aggressive, and progressive sport with the advent of the twin tipped ski. A ski with both the tip and tail turned up that allows for both forwards and backwards motion. This innovation no longer left the riding up to the limitations of the ski, but rather the imagination of the skier. A new wave of skiers were drawn to the sport. Ones who wanted freedom of expression and freedom to progress the sport and push it hard into new directions. Terrain parks then started to pop up all over the world and twin tip or, newschool skiers as we are called today started pouring in, making their presence felt as a revolutionary group that turned a stale sport into one full of new life and vigor. Skiing has changed tremendously and sadly it’s not being recognized. It seems to be in the shadows of the fad of snowboarding. If it were recognized though people would see what an awesome sport it is, and how creative and original it can be despite the fact its been around for thousands of years. Sure newschool skiing gets coverage during the x-games. But what is that, a half-hour out of the entire year? How many non-skiers do you think actually end up watching it? Not many. Sure skiing is also covered during the Olympics but that’s just the typical skiing people have seen on televisions since televisions have been around. It’s boring! What skiing needs is a video game. It doesn’t need Johnny Moseley Mad Trix, which was a misrepresentation of our sport. That is why it failed miserably. It needs a real solid game that will open people’s eyes (especially the younger ones) to what skiing really is. Once this is realized the game will take off, it will sell better than any snowboard game ever made. You know why? Because it’s different and new, it’s exciting and refreshing, eye-opening and surprising. We all know that is what people want. So if this game is made with a sick story line, real skiers, real skiis, realistic levels, competitions, solid controls and so on it will turn out a big crowd. Not to mention how much money you could make from some of the large companies involved in skiing, (Oakley and Salomon, cha ching?).

Now with that being said, here is my proposal to you. I will give you an extremely detailed video game plot with input from myself and many other hardcore skiers. I will lay out the plot, the controls, the tricks, the skiers, the skiis, the levels, the competitions, and anything else necessary to set up a sick game that will sell to those outside of the skiing world. I’ve also included two of last years biggest ski films with this proposal that I encourage you to watch so you can get an idea of what I’m driving at because it really represents the direction the sport is going in and I’m sure you will be blown away. The film companies are also the biggest names in the ski filming business and I’m sure they will contribute their knowledge and expertise to the cinematic portions of the game should there ever be one. i got an idea, in the game you could start out at a real shitty mt. in like the east i.e. maryland/pennsylvania where i ski at with a shitty park and a couple runs, and then every year you could progress to a better mountain, or thorought the year you could competer in competiotions and that could get you to knew places and you would earn money to buy lift passes or season passes to ski at better places, and you could buy heliskiing trips. Also if we want to incorporate big mountain into this it couldnt be just skiing down a hill we should model it like New Zealand in amped 2. This level is a big mountain stage with various kickers and cliffs throughout the level. also we should make a chatroom or something so that we can all come up with a solid propasal by all of us instead of just proposing ideas

the intro was good at points but lacked professionalism at others. The cha ching thing is a little rediculous, and we want these guys taking us 100% seriously, use as formal writing as you can. Words like awesome and hardcore just dont cut it even for me in something like that, not to mention a group of businesmen in some conference room. ALso, when you talk about how unpopular skiing is, thats kind of a bad direction, I mean sure you change it around midway, but its bad to even start into that direction period. Saying that this game iwll make skiing popular has no meaning to them, they want skiing to be popular and therefore we have to convince them that it is, and this game will be the only one on the market so everyone will buy it. I dont know.

its so great to actualy see people putting effort in to this, and i know how awsome it would be to get some company to put this all together. Try and get the main ideas together, because i don't think they want to have there time wasted by a whole bunch of details, its sorta like a college essay, they won't bother with reading about you if you write 4, 5 pages, you want to make it short sweet and atractive. If you can sell it to them, they should be able to sell it to anybody. another thing you need to do is maybe find some pro's to back this thing, i mean sure it'd be cool to have Tanner or Jp, but what you'd need is to find some one whos commited to the sport. some one who would want there name on the product. Think glen plake's dedication to skiing, find your group of pros who will want this too happen just as much as we all do. I would like to see more talk about money. Like sponsers. And more tlak about non skiiers. Non-skiiers is where the money is at for the gaming company.

Proposal for game

The skier starts out at small east/Midwest resort at the beginning of the season, as the season progresses you learn more tricks and you enter several local amateur comps. You have to place well in these comps to earn cash for summer camp. If you earn the needed amount you will go to summer camp, if not you have to go through another season at the local resort and you lose some of your money during the summer. At summer camp you learn new tricks and enter small comps to earn money for trips out west to competitions. If you don’t make enough money you go back to home mountain for a season to earn more money and try again. If you make enough money at the comps you get to enter qualifiers for major comps and enter the U.S. open if you have the money, comps will be slope style, half-pipe, big air and big mountain. If you qualify or do good in the U.S. open or other major comps you will get to perform for sponsors to get sponsorships ( like amped). Once you are sponsored you will go on filming trips to super park, parkasourus BC kickers and Big mountain skiing. The more sponsors the more photo shoots. You will have to have good photo shoots and good comp results to keep sponsorship. Big mountain mode would allow for two things, one- skiing lines, two- making kickers. You will be able to choose the spot for the kicker but if the gap is to big for the speed you get in the in run or the landing is bad you will not be able to stick your tricks. As you earn more money you could move to different resorts and be on the pro team there earning cash between photo shoots and comps.

I typed this out in a few minutes, tell me what you think and give me suggestions.

something like spot checks would be cool, where you can go into a town and session different spots...maybe two rails, a tow-in kicker, some stuff like that....and you'd hit that trying to get a couple good shots for a movie spot (i.e. the tony hawk 4 equivalent of the small missions)

i think calling it tanner halls pro skater limits it in a way. because its so much about style, i think giving him the title of the game suggests that he is the best - but i think everyone on this site can agree that we all have our own opinions about who has the sickest airs and the most styled out grabs and spins.

i think that it has to be a park game. you could bring seth in as an extra character. i just think that anyone who is playing the game and is a huge fan of seth is going to want to see him hucking. the game would get too complicated if you tried to do both. i think that skiing big mountain would have to be an extra. and maybe there could be a mini game: seth morrisons big mountain hucker. where your him or maybe two other guys (kreitler and shane?) and you can only play the extra if you beat the game.

otherwise getting skiers for the game is going to depend on sponsors. you cant have tanner without his armadas. however i think that ski companies would be retarded not to back this opportunity. however then it becomes a game as to which ski companies will give enough money.

i understand all you skiers looking for sick technique and control options to personally steeze out your moves, but the point of this game is that it has to be fun for everyone. people who don't ski don't give a fuck about style - see thats the thing - so whoever said it had to have a good storyline to be successful was totally right.

i think keeping things realistic is good. but lets be honest if you keep it entirely realistic, people who don't ski aren't going to get sucked in.

when i say unrealistic i mean things like being able to grind longer than any human person could do, all kinds of wierd trannies, and just ridiculously difficult lines through all kinds of shit to trick off of.

and yes i think there should be a level where you ski through a city. seattle preferably. you have to think about a non skier audience.
