ladies you just need to relax. lots of people are talking about the big mountain new school fusion, but i don't thnk anyones really do that amazing of a job at (it except for seth). kent kreitler thinks he's fuckin new school big mountain jib savior, but he's but hes just now going off axis after blabbing about it for years. mike d has the potential to really do something - because you can tell hes a good skier. what i was trying to say in my drunken stupor is that - lots of skiers can throw sick tricks off of cliffs in the back country but they need to link thier tricks with good skiing style in between. watch tanners big mountain sequence in 1242, he's hauling but he looks like a fuckin retard. you need to pay more attention to what these big mountain skiers are saying bout the park rats - everyones doubting their actual skiing ability. i'm just saying if they want to be taken seriously for in this new big mountain arena then they need to show that they can ski, not just ride out after a trick. Peps sick but i don't think he's going to be a nobis or a kreitler (however nobis and kreitler will never do what pep can). capiche?

I completely agree with Simmers. He is just making a point and making it well. No one can give an opposing opinion to his view that makes any sense. All you say is 'well, the pros are better than you.' well of course they are, thats why there pros.

Alpinecowboy has got a point...these guys that are heading out and throwing stuff off of cliffs, etc, aren't so much progressing, they're just taking their tricks to a new arena. For some, that might be progression...but the way I see it, the people that really are progressing are those that can ski sick fucking lines, and then throw a sick fucking trick somewhere in that line. Most are going to the mountain, and treating cliffs as jumps, and thats it. They'll spend the day just hitting cliffs...it's like a natural terrain park. This is not saying that I think they suck...the shit they're throwing is cool, but they're still not skiing...

^ what the fuck, have you been paying attention to the ski scene for the last four years??? Before SM3 when have seen someone throw more than a penciled 3 off a cliff?!? Progression takes time. What these guys are doing(and for the coyboy kid not very many pros are even taking their tricks to the backcountry let alone big mountain cliffs...so shut-up!) is progressive anyway you look at it. Skiers have only been seriously jumping in the powder for the last three years and to take it to the big-mountain so soon is crazy. I have no doubts that all CR and Eric Pollard are going to concentrate on is doing lines with 2 to 3 tricks in them but progression just doesn't happen that fast.

hey alpinecowboy! Have you ever jumped in the powder...I doubt it, cause unless you are super natural, you would know that jumping in powder is super difficult. Skiing is skiing no matter where you are doing it! If you feel that someone is not good skier because he can't ski lines then I feel sorry about your closed mindedness.

Alright- acl, I have been paying attention to the past couple years, read what I said. These guys are throwing tricks off of natural features, and that's it. No one is mixing them with mindblowing lines that would be respectful in their own right, with the exception of Morrison and a few others. Sure, they've progressed to the point of taking tricks from the park to natural features on a mountain, but that's not really joining big mountain and park...yet. Once the ski what's above that cliff and what's below that cliff, then I'll be a believer. And, as I said...it's sick shit they're doing, but it's not up to the level that they think they're at.

I'm very well aware who he is- I'm just stating my opinion on the matter. In no way do I disrespect the type of shit that pro skiers are doing these days...it just seems a bit far fetched to claim that they have definitely arrived at the so called 'Fusion' skiing, becuase from what I can see, only a few have done so.

Pep has been doing tricks in the back country that before had only been done in the park. Since he did hundred ft. 5's and 180 off a 35 footer, and since nobody has before, I would say he is at the head of the game for the type of progression...nobody said that it was perfected yet, but he is bringing the two together, just like your hero seth morrison, only seth is taking it from the opposite direction, with big mountain being his strength

but more importantly is that you still don't get what i'm saying. take a look at what the one kid on my side is saying: taking tricks to the cliffs doesn't make you a sick big mountain skier. dagnabbit. you have to actually ski a line. that means the whole thing. a line being from the time you drop the cornice until you roll up to the heli. it needs to be fluid. the point of big mountain skiing is that you are focusing on a line as a whole. these kids throw dope tricks but they don't ski sick lines. if they want to progress they need to forget about the tricks and focus on the lines for a while. and besides big mountain skiing doesn't only have to progress in the aspect of adding sick tricks. what about spine transfers? yall need to go watch some tgr - thats real big mountain (don't watch high life its not really all that good - except for kreitler and sage).

it is progression, pep style is not even as 'monkey as you make it out to be. the fact is he has an individual style like any skier. He is a great park skier and to bring tricks to the back country is great. beyond that tho he is not just doing d spin 7's... he is landing switch in powder and trying new things. the amount of peeple trying park tricks in the back country is few. even less is the amount of peeple that are pushing it to the level that pep does. if you cant understand how that is progressing the sport than you need to open ur eyes.

I think you'll find the number of sick big-mtn lines that ALSO have multiple cliffs suitable for tricking off of, are pretty limited.

Doesn't seem to make sense to limit your definition of 'progression' to 'sick big-mtn lines with multiple cliff-tricks thrown in smoothly' is very limiting. By using that definition of 'progression,' you're saying that is the only area in which skiing can progress or grow. Does this mean everyone without heli-access to perfect mountain peaks and the gargantuan balls needed to trick them up is not allowed to progress the sport? That means you're saying there is no room for growth in urban rails/features, halfpipe (18 feet out for a flair last year, CR what?), slopestyle, etc. etc.

Kids are out there progressing the sport in every area imaginable, today. I agree that it's great to see skiers taking the tricks to the cliffs and mixing them in with the big lines, but that's not the only way to progress the sport.

OK- let me clarify. Read what I said...YES, these guys are doing incredible things in a new arena...I never said Pep's 180 off of a 35 footer was child's play...that is definitely some sick shit, and I love it. BUT! These people claim that they've come to realize the 'fusion' between big mountain skiing and park skiing, when, as alpinecowboy reiterated, they are just doing tricks off cliffs in somewhat controlled settings. As I said earlier, they need to throw in sick lines with that in order to reach this new level of skiing. Phunk had a good point, though, when he said that this type of thing would be very limited, and I agree...but who said progression is supposed to be easy? All these skiers have definitely taken it to a new level, but the level that they've reached is, in my opinion, a bit shy of what they're claiming. Just my opinion, take it for what it's worth...just go skiing.

Pep is a sick skier, but he doesn't compare to the big guys AT ALL...I'm talking about Kreitler, Morrison, Cummings, Treadway, Yves-Leblanc, Chicherit (sp?)- yes, Pep can destroy shit in the park, but it is these guys that are the sick big mountain riders...can't you all see that?
