For my photo class in school we were asked to do a report on a famous photographer who you try to emulate so i chose Markewitz, but one aspect of this project is we gotta talk about their life and I have found nothing so far. and since I went skiing this weekend im starting it now...can anybody help me?? ++karma
I am usually against ski related assignments, and coming to NS for questions about homework in general, but his assignment was a photographer he wants to emulate, and I would say since he's a skier, Scott Markewitz would be one he tries to emulate. You could write about how the discipline of photography has influenced Scott Markewitz/skiing photography as a whole, and find out whether skiing/action sports photography has any influence on photography in general. If you really want to do the assignment, and you need some info, you could always come up with a few questions and email Markewitz for some info.
The word famous also came up and that translates to the teacher has heard of the the guy/gal. and unless they are an active skier (more the weekend warrior) they probably have never heard of Scott Markewitz.
Also for those of you who have not figured it out yet, highschool is not about you, its about your teachers and making them happy. Teachers uaually (a) are not impressed by your unyielding love of an off the radar sport. (b) find it quite ammusing (not in the way that improves your grade) that you think there is something in skiing worth write about. Another thing you guys should figure out is that skiing is nothing more then a luxury recrational activity. There is no conflict or story in 'luxury recration' at least not that the rest of the world wants to hear about. Sure there can be those years that stretch your patience, or the days that are just amazing, but when you compair to the stories other people write about, you had better hope yours is seen as a parody. And yes photography is about stories.
Skiing should not be used in achedemic projects. thats the end of it. Now my suggestion is chose Ansil Adams (you won't be the only one). Not only is he a photographer you want to emmulate (every photographer wants to emmulate him). He did his most famous work in the mountains. So while your skiing. you just take a few minute breaks throughout your day to take pictures of the mountains around you. Unless your in the Mid west then just emmulate Dorthia Long.
scott markowitz is siccckkk, but def do someone more mainstream it will be loads easier. Check out ansel adams, i just went to an exhibit of him and he is soo sick
