Magnet Plate in skis?

I just herd of this, has anyone ever done it themselves? Im not saying I am agreeing with it, but as every sport grows equipment evolution becomes questionable and debatable. Grade school science we found out positives attract negatives and vice versa, and + rejects +, as - rejects -. You could use those forces in the ski center to lock you on, and stay locked, with rejected forces forbidding you to wonder abouts on the rail. This could mean much more control, much more technical shit.

This idea just came into my head today, possibly a future? There is no set of regulations to prevent it from happening besides competition rules that would become effective. And then, the image aspect, what will NS think of skier X rocking this while no one else is. Love it or hate it.

How could this lead to more technical tricks if the magnets are locking you onto the rail? Most tricks that are considered technical are ones that are done while not being on the actual rail such as switch ups. How powerful of magnets are you talking about? I really doubt we would see this in the future of skiing.

magnets are really heavy. the amount required to sustain the forces of skiing the magnets would have to be huge and super heavy. unless you use electromagnets but then you would need electricity and that would just be a huge set back and then you would have problems with releasing of the bindings and such.

everything has some sort of charge to it, but i dont think the bars would carry enough positive/negative charge to make the attraction significant enough to feel it under the applied forces.

that being said, even if u did have an attraction great enough, the shear weight of the magnits would fuck everything up.

your skis would get stuck to alot of things other than rails, snowmakers, gondola racks, chairlift foot rests, ski racks, etc.

maybe sliding rails smoothly takes less friction. but in order to be able to grip and pretzel you are going to need some friction.

and i dont understand why you are calling him a complete retard? i dont see anything embarrassing about this thread

if there are these magnets holding you onto the rails, switch ups would be harder to pull off, thus leaving your "progression" to surface switch-up stuff

the only way this would ever help is if you cant slide rails to begin with and need help just staying on, after that it would hinder you more than help, overall it wouldnt work at all

not saying this would or woudlnt work, and not saying this is or isnt a good idea. but here are some facts.

1. you could use electromagnets, they are not that heavy (no more then a binding) and could be used to bind the skier to the ski along with a ski to/off a rail

2. there easily is enough technology out there where you could make an inteligent bind system (price bing irrelivent) you could put pressure sensors in a boot, a small processor, and an electormagnet in the heel and toe. When pressure in a combinations is detected (ankle being twisted, boots being pulled in opposite directions, i dont know) the boot would sense the distinctive pressures and disengage the electromagnets. all you would need is two metal plates on the ski for the magnets to attach to, either on top of or in the middle of the ski.

3. im not sure how it could pertain to rails or jibs but you could have the center of the ski chared one way, the jib charged oppositly, and tips of the ski the same as the rail, so that the ski would stay centtered on the rail and you wont fall off. however that would Increase the friction, seing as friction is directly proprotioal to weight.  so maybe a non charged center, charged tips, and charged jib would center you on the rail. idk its very technical and a bit excessive, but hey the sport has to go somwhere.

I think the cost of development and manufacture of a ski with a magnet powerful enough to make a difference would far outweigh the positive effects it would have on a persons jibbing ability.

if they keep you locked onto the rail in any kind of way the'll prevent you to slide the rail by making you stop on the rail as weell as they will cause a decelration dues to the magnetic effect...

gotta say this is kinda dumb. might as well just learn how to balance your weight better.

even if there was a way to make this work it takes the technicailty and skill out of skiing. any gaper could throw nasty rails tricks and that would just ruin our sport
