the bank i have been using for many years really fucked up.. Im home for the summer and got into some shit with my parents that resulted in them going down to the branch and asking for my account balence statement, which they happily gave out to my mom and resulting in fucking me over for this week and getting me kicked out of the house

the second i heard this i went down there and fucking flipped out on the Regional manager and she had a meeting with all the tellers... im 19 and a full adult thats mad fucking illegal, you can't just give out private information to someone because they are friendly with the teller. IT fucked me over bad and im real pissed, i know this is super illegal, but is it worth following up with? The manager clearly understood how serious this was and was extremely apologetic . I threatened a law suit if it happens again

I'm sure you could file a lawsuit because they violated your privacy. That teller should be fired at the very least.

I dont think you should be asking the ns community on ways to proceed with litigation. perhaps calling a lawyer would be your best avenue. "remember, it costs nothing to make the call."

after lawyer fees and all of that wasted time in court chances are it will not be worth it. i'd switch branches if i were you that shit is real lame.

yeah that sucks. it would still be illegal by any means but the moral question would be who put the money in there? if it was you thats outrages that she stole it but if it was your parents then fuck them.

What you really need to find out is who signed for the account when it was opened.  Chances are that if you were under 18 when it was opened, your parents were given joint-ownership of your account.  It's up to the bank whether or not they automatically change the account over to you as the only person.  I've heard of people having trouble with shady parents that are still linked to their accounts even after they've turned 18.  Best advice: Make sure your bank account is yours only, maybe even close it and open a new account just to make sure no one else is involved.

Yeah bud, this bro's right. Just because you are 19 now doesn't mean they transfer the account fully in your name. If you opened before you were 18 you have to have a parent co sign or even have it in their name with your name on the acount (as someone who can access it) So unless you opened a new acount, your parents had every legal right to go in and get a statement.

what state do you live in this doea make a difference.  different states do use different ages, most states are 18 for financial transactions but there are liek 12 states that are 21.  why did it matter to your parents what your balance was? are they tring to see if you were selling drugs and had a super high balance? or were you supposed to be saving and haddnt,  what was the reason they wanted it.


but you should push the issue,  steps contact better buissness beaurea. 
http://www.bankersonline.com/regs/rfpa/rfpa.html is a good link and site to get you started.  the most you could get out of it is a push to have the teller fired and push some regulatory action against the bank,  but you couldnt sue then for any money cause their errorr didnot have any finacial ramifications for you.  in regaurds to that account or the information they gave out.

you can also contact the fedreal reserve board, or your state banking commission.(  or what ever regulatory bodies you have in your state.  a good place to start would be your area state government congressmen as well  his office can put you in the right direction to take this matter further

that but there is a difference,  if it was opened as a joint account then she could do that, but all your staements would have her name on it as well, the other way is to have the parent on it as a custodial account. in this case it is the bank or financial institutions responsablity to remove the custodian at age of majority which like i said varies state state.

also it's not really worth following up with if you just got in trouble with your parents...if a bank ever does anything like this to you and it results in legit identity theft or gets the IRS up your ass, then yes, fuck them back to the stone age

I dunno, you could probably file a lawsuit, but...do you want to pay for a lawyer? And, it's not like you'd get money out of it, you don't have any damages that equate to a loss of money.  The bank would probably get fined, or someone fired.

but also, last night i called my credit card company cause i wanted to make a payment, and for some reason it wasnt allowing me to login online. So I call and they're like "yeah your account is locked for some reason, in order to unlock it we need you to answer some security questions" im like "ok" so they ask for my address, my phone #, my social security number....then, he says i need answer one more question, randomly picked by the computer using a database of public information about me...im like "whatever" so he says "clarkfork" and i go "what?" and he goes "clarkfork" and i go "clarkfork, idaho?" and he goes "yeah, is that some place that you've lived? and i go "yeah" and he goes "what was your address in clarkfork idaho?" and proceeds to give me 3 random addresses...

I was 2 years old when i lived in clarkfork idaho!!!!!!! wtf?! so I didn't know the answer to the question and he told me he could no longer speak to me about the account!

I didn't even want to buy anything, i just wanted to make a payment, it doesn't make any sense!

ok, you've got a point, but first off

how much do your parents do for you?  How financially dependent are you on them?  Do they help you pay for school?  Obviously they let you stay in their house.  If you are really a full adult then you would have no dependancy on them at all.  So although legally you can say ur a full adult, that doesn't make it true.  And you must've done something pretty wrong to get yourself kicked out of your house for a week anyways.  Bare that in mind when you start throwing law suits around bro. 

It was wrong that they gave out your personal info.  That part is VERY illegal and they should recognize that fact.  But I think you need to chill out.  You did something wrong in the first place, so its basically your fault you got kicked out. 

By the way, who's computer are you using right now?  (I hope it isn't mommy and daddy's)

if you started the bank account before you were 18, then your mom or dad probably have custodial rights (they can give/take money from the account, handle the money, etc). so you should probably check and see if either of them is listed on your account...
