Hey guys, I'm looking for a new powder ski. Something specifically for pow days. I'm about 175lbs, 6'1. I ski mostly in the Okanagan here in BC (have been atleast 50 days a year since i was 3), with a few trips around the west coast. I mostly ski really tight trees and sketchy lines, with some open bowls thrown into the mix. Something light would be preferred. I had my eye on some EP Pro's, mostly for their quick turning, early rise (reverse camber), and light weight. They're really soft, which is fine for most of what i do, but i figure they wont be very nice when it gets chopped up or when charging someting nice and open. You guys have any suggestions for other options?
flat camber, will reverse in powder under pressure.
pretty much a twin, you can still land backwards
my music blog complete with downloads
jp vs juliens. take your pick between the older normal sidecut and camber or the newer ARG-like dimensions. another ski (assuming rocker isnt a must) to look into would be the maden ak/ak enemy. 109 at the waist, fairly soft and fun but you can still plow through crud and whatnot
"its the best when your going commando in jeans and she starts dry humping. by the time your done you dick looks like a pencil eraser" - stevens
then i point the shower head lower and sort of bend over like i am takin it from a guy and use my hands to spread my cheeks - oakley_man_540
Along with the nice spring to the EP Pros, take a look at the Icelantic Shaman. Very different design for a fat powder ski with it's spade style tip but it is VERY highly touted for its tight tree abilities and ability to attack in deep powder.
having put a couple days on shamans and nomads this past season, ill say they're no rockered ski in pow pow, but they can route thru the tightest trees and are stiff enough not to get pushed around in shoddy conditions and micro-golfing. dont be scared by the "shortness"; they may look like snowblades to people over 6 feet, but they rip thru trees much better than my 189 seths. and the shamans are now in 184cm and nomads in 181cms.
Thank you for the clarification. I just re-read my post and I wrote it very retardedly as I make it seem like the Icelantics have rocker which they don't.
Where in the Okanagan are you? I ride Silverstar every day and we never really get that nice dry powder that colder places get. It's always a bit warmer and heavier which is why I don't think that a really soft ski would be great. I'd get somethign stiffer that can blast through crud.
"I'd marry skiing, but it's playing hard to get"
obsethed sounds good for you.
i would explain but im pretty high and drunk
i like to be happy.
hahaha, yeah i agree, or JJ's
RIP Doug Coombs
i'd say jjs, obsethed, bibby pro, ruby, steeze/s6, bacon, czar, s7
line prophets or moships if your skiing heavier snow.
it doesnt seem like he wants something that charging oriented, if he was to get lines i would say Ep pros or bacons
i like to be happy.
I ski Apex. I ride Mothership Flites now as my all mtn ski, in a 172 (with the 90 waist). They're haggard as all hell now but I refuse to replace them. I love my motherships and figured the new ones for 09 would be dope for bombing. I thought about Prophets too, but I don't think either of them are quite playful enough for what I'm looking for? Not really a Volkl fan. The Bibby Pro's sound fun, and look pretty dope too, but maybe a little stiff? I'm not too sure about the JJ's either. I think they'd be a dope ski to replace my motherships, but not so sure if i'd want to use them as a powder specific ski. I've never ridden Moments, but their lineup looks really solid. Thanks for the input so far guys. Any other suggestions/input?
The scott P4's are awsome in the pow (108) underfoot, kinda softer in the tip but the flex is right, really good for skiing around the whole mountain. Switch is effortless and you can take sorta ski em in the park if it's not too bulletproof.
id for sure go with any thing made by Black Diamond. They are the powder ski to have. I know this guy who has them, and he will never ride anything else. think there kind of spendy though
i would do the new jj's or bibby pros. the rocker is gonna make the ski feel a bit softer than it actually is. they're both gonna be playful, but still able to charge.
