MOLSON CANADIAN SNOW JAM 2002
Expanded North-American Tour
Calgary - Vancouver - Toronto - Ottawa - Halifax - Detroit - Buffalo - Albany - Boston
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Toronto -- Tuesday, February 26, 2002 -- Molson Canadian Snow Jam is back with a confirmed nine-city tour for 2002!
After the enormous success of the eight-city Molson Canadian Snow Jam 2001 Tour, Molson is excited to announce its return with the addition of two more US cities! The tour, scheduled for Vancouver, Calgary, Ottawa, Toronto, Halifax, Detroit, Buffalo, Albany and Boston, will transform the streets into athletic and musical festival arenas. Over 100 tonnes of snow, plus an action sports Olympiad of snowboarders, freeskiers, BMX bikers and skateboarders competing on massive ramp structures for a $540,000 Cdn. total cash purse. The crowd will rock against a backdrop of leading edge live bands and DJ's performing on the Molson Canadian Rocks Stage. The events will be rounded out with a Vendor Village that includes action sports displays, products and interactive games.
Over 340,000 fans spun the turnstiles in 2001, showing the strength of this awesome display of hucking, boarding and bmxing. Garrison Grounds - Citadel Hill in Halifax beat out all with a record-breaking crowd of 62,400. Since its launch in 1999, over 500,000 stoked-out spectators have rocked the Molson Canadian Snow Jam events.
Molson Canadian Snow Jam is not the standard sports and music festival. There is no other place on the planet where spectators can catch the best core action sports on real snow… in the summer. In sweltering heatwaves, fans cheer on competitors as they battle it out for the cash purse, while leading edge bands such as Goldfinger, Swollen Members, Bif Naked, Sum 41, Treble Charger and GOB, rock the crowd on the Main Stage.
This Pro-invitational event has a total cash prizing of $60,000 Cdn./event and will be awarded to the winners of various “Super Session” and “Big Hit” contests held throughout the weekend. Riders who have taken home the cash in the past include: BMX legends – Dave Osato and Jay Miron; Snowboard sensations – Mike Michalchuk, Jonas Guinn and Keir Dillon; Freeskiing revolutionaries – Scott Hibbert, Rex Thomas, Andy Woods, Chris Turpin and Toben Sutherland; Skateboarding chargers – Rob “Sluggo” Boyce and Barry Walsh.
