what you probably need to do is bend your ski leg knee more. Shift all your weight to that side before dropping the ski and then you won't need to rely on the other leg to balance. Keep your head up and feel for that toe slip. When you find it slide your foot in and redistribute your weight evenly over both feet.
Getting up on a slalom ski is not too much like wakeboarding. In wakeboarding you have such a large, bouyant board that its easy to just pop right up on top of the water. When getting up on a slalom ski you need to be as small as possible. THat is keep your knees right up into your chest and let the boat do all the work. Also i find it easier to put my back foot in while starting, (well actually i have to becacuse i ride a double boot.) if you're having trouble finding the back slip when you drop you'll probably want to start with two feet in as well.
Good luck!
same.
i used two when i first started, i used possilbley the fattest two skis just so i can get up.
What you need to do is ride on two skis, and while cruising with those two on lift up, NOT drop, and balance on ski. Try to balance on just your right ski while picking up your left, then try balancing on just your left and pick up your right. Once you know what foot you feel more comfortable with balancing, you now know what foot to have in front.
Now that you have your front foot figuired out, it's time to drop a ski! Dropping is a ton easier than getting up on one because it doesn't take any extra strength or harder balancing skills. Drop your non dominant foot's ski and don't even worry about putting your foot into the holder of the other ski. Just relax and get a feel for the one ski balance. Once you have that down, move your bare foot next to your foot that is in the boot. Then when it is next to it, slowly move it back until you find the holder with your toes. Slip it in, ski away like a champ.
That's my best advice I can offer you, and it has worked with tons of my friends when they come up to my cabin.
