OK idk if this cult is dead but i know freewilly checks this sometimes so...

Im moving soon and ive decided im guna set up a bit of a studio (not to record) in my house. I dont know too much about this shit but i know im guna get a computer, and i want some sort of mpc, keyboard, mixer, and audio interface. i find it a lot easier to have the pads and keys in front of me rather than purely software.  I was thinking about an mpk49.. but what other things would i need to buy. Also what software should i use, and what does what. Im just looking to set up a studio to make some rap beats. maybe a list of things i would need and some suggestions would be great. thanks

I'll use Freewilley as an example... for making rap beats you can utilized a lot of different tools. He has 2 main tools:

1. Software - Reason4 (synths, drum machine... etc).
2. Hardware - MPC2500 (great for loop stuff... but annoying when it comes down to composing).

If you use hardware like an MPC then you'll need a multi track recording software, along with an audio interface (Sound card, pro tools dongle... AD/DA box... etc). You'll also need a midi interface in order to keep the tracking software and MPC in synchronization as well.

I took a look at the MPK49... and it's cool. BUT, it is a MIDI TOOL, not a drum machine like the MPC. Differences?

1. It does not create AUDIO... you have to plug it into the computer into a program that converts MIDI into sound... such as Reason, Fruity Loops, etc.

2. It will not have the acclaimed 'AKAI' Sampler sound... why? Because you'll be using samples on the computer, and not passing it through any good circuitry, like the kind that exists on the 2500.
