Salomon will likely increase it's lead on the freestyle / freeski world with the launching of it's new Ghost boot in 08.

The concept of the boot is basically the expansion of 2 buckle SPK story but with the fit of a Falcon shell. What this all means is an SPK inspired boot for guys/girls who are also out of the park and require a little more then a skate shoe fit (which is SPK).

The flex will be 110 (kinda like an old Xwave or newer Impact 10)

This boot looks killer. As do the rest of the future SPK's.

Salomon is on top of the freestyle world!!

the new ghost is a sick boot, we got about 10 pairs of them at sporting life, the last feels a little bit more like the falcon 10 though

So I am most likely wrong for a whole number of reasons when I say this but just for curiosity's sake

Why don't they make a boot with two buckles that are really oversized, like one lines the whole of the shin and one the whole of the foot?  Obvi a regularly sized boot, just longer, larger buckles.

for those of you that all know- the original concept of the spk boot was a wider boot = easier to stomp tricks, but what salomon didnt realize was that they made the boot a lil too wide-ive heard from a lot of people that they have to space fill the heel b/c so there was space. now salomon is basically realizing their mistake and tryin to make the boot more narrow basically and covering it up with a bunch of bs. The spk is a retarded idea cept for the vertical stance but if your like  me and just CANNOT get used to it , its sucks. I give them props aagain for tryin but dont think they are " on top of the freestyle world" for putting out ideas that seem great but really arent. However, I have the old gun boot - the salomon 1080 pro model- and it is the best boot out there by far -perfect flex and custom fit. So that being said the moral of this rant is salomon boots still kik ass but this new spk is nothing kik ass.

The spk is the most popular boot in freestyle.

Any shop that sells freestyle products have it....

It's kick ass. And 100% sold out. Ask any shop.

If you rock the 1080 promodel, then the new ghost boot will be right up your alley.

on the spk: i really dont quite understand the need for a 2 buckle boot at all.  are kids so intent on wearing a boot that offers comfort before performance that youre willing to accept it as the staple for freeskiing?  were running into pushing park skiing before actual skiing, and perhaps this isnt much of an issue for some of you, which is fine with me.  but coming from a racing background, i am a supporter of all-around skiing ability.  this boot simply cannot offer that.

i think the problem that were running into is this boot encouraging skiing park before learning how to actually ski.  it makes skiing more approachable by offering a comfortable alternative to traditional ski boots, with serious drawbacks coming along with that comfort, i.e. lack of ability to actually ski a boot in any conditions other than park and powder.

introducing a stiffer version of the spk looks to be a move in the right direction, as long as the two-buckle boot is here to stay, which is certainly seems to be.  but the boot is intended for big mountain riding, from what i gather.  why is it that the rossignol big mountain boot is nothing but a slightly toned down race stock plug boot.  clearly that kind of performance is needed for big mountain riding, something that a two buckle boot simply cannot offer.

that said, the spk is certainly a great push in the progression of park skiing.  but as far as im concerned, that where this "technology" should remain.  using it elsewhere just isnt practical.

It's because there really is no such thing as a "park" boot, a "freeride" boot, a "beginner" boot and so on. The right boot for a particular person's build and style comes down to just two things: width and flex (slight simplification, and "shock absorbers" do nothing, before you comment on that).

Companies put out "freeride"/etc boots because a lot of poeple don't realise this and if only one company did a "freeride" boot then they would have a captive market for uneducated freeride skiers. This is exactly what has happened with the SPK (and could happen with this new Salomon).

If no-one categorised their boots as being for a specific style of skiing then it would be all good. But because one or two companies started doing it years ago, everyone has to do it now in order to compete in the marker, or some people wouldn't even consider those brands as having a suitable boot for freeride/etc.

Shame on Salomon for creating the SPK, and now the Ghost.

These boots are already for sale at the Salomon shop in Tremblant -- $699

I thought they looked good, but $699 is too much, but I am sure that people will spend that to have an 08--09 product.

Prices are in Canadian, but the dollar is about the same right now.

the only good thing about the ghost boot is how the center of it on the bottom is rubber and sticks down farther than the heel and toe, other than that, salomon could make a better boot with the money that the company has if they truly wanted too

3 stores in canada that have it right now, the slaomon shop in tremblant, sporting life in toronto, and one other shop out in vancouver which i cant remember of the top of my head. we got about 10 pairs at my shop at 650

To every single close-minded person out there who is saying how one boot or one design is better than another:


YOUR ALL FUCKING RETARDED!!!! Every single person in this fucking goofy spinning planet has an almost completely different foot than the next.  Different designs work for different people.  For me spk's are the only boot that don't make the outside of my feet go numb for days. ive been fitted for boots three times. all three times the same thing happens, my foot goes tingly numb. they are also the only boot i have ever worn or tried on that my heel doesnt lift in. if your gonna say my bootfitter sucks, or i havent tried enough boots, beleive i have. people hips spines legs and feet align differently, therefore vertical stance works for some, while not for others. 4 buckles hold some peoples feet in better than two, while it is the other way for others.  God damn you close-minded idiots......

just like how all you "big mountain skiers" need giant ass stiff skis, to make it down a mountain. there are multiple ways down every mountain, and more specifically, every run, or even every "line". you could hit the same ridge or cliff, but ski it differently than the person before you. pull you heads out from under those big ass boulders youve kept them under, and realize that there are multiple ways to do things.......

looked at E.P. for example?

not saying big or stiff skis are bad or wrong or anything else, cause then i would be just as dumb as the rest of you, and as a matter of fact they are great...for some people, but not for others.

for me, the spk is godly, i have odd shaped calfs and a really high arch (the middle of my feet dont touch the ground.) the spk has the eva high back (doesnt hurt my weird shins) and a better fit for my foot. i can never get the buckles right on my current boots, or infact any boots ive tried (sans spk). This new ghost would be a great boot for myself if i was less park oriented.

phil meyer is quoted to say they dont need 4 buckles. he still stands by that, but he now wants it to be a 3 buckle boot. as does my friend yannick who is also on the salomon int. team. yann was tellin me that he can move his toes in the boot, which he doesnt want to be able to do. i guess in freeriding, every movement, however subtle, that you make with your foot, needs to be transferred immeadiately to the ski. this is not achieved by a boot that leaves half of the front of your foot unsurported and loosely held.

I think the overall design of the SPK is great, but they schould have a third buckel at the bottom where your toes are. Like the single buckel right above your shins is great. Totally reduces shin bang, and makes the boot have a move even fit. But the single buckel at the bottom lets your foot move around too much.

My feet don't move around at all in my foils, but the pressure on my shins is not equal as well.  So in the end my toes don't get crushed, but  i get shin bang sometimes.   A third buckel right above your toes would be fantastic.....but i would say for shinbang design the EL Moro from diabello is the best.

That large top strap that covers most of the top part of the boot is a great idea........if only i didn't have huge sasqush feet.

ya see thats the thing...the spk freestyle park boots(not ghost) are designed so that you CAN move more toes to help with balance and control, esp. on rails

Going by what ive read, the spk ghost may be just what your looking for. the third buckle may not be necessary with the lower profile design(reason for using the falcon shell/shape) rather than wide toebox of other park specific spk's

I think Dalbello kinda tried that with the il moro. The ratchet type system on the shin is oversized and really works well. I have a pair and I love them

this is all the far i read before i had to reply  to you. everyones foot is diffrent. i love my spks and can ski them anywehre. just cause YOU dont like them doesnt mean there the worst boot in the world.  and my top buckle is loose this prevents shin bang for me for some reason and im not a "sloppy" skier what so ever. so dont go hating casue some people like spk boots. and yes i kno your high on the ns ladder or what ever you want to say but spk is a good boot and all the bullshit bout them not performing anywhere but park is not true!
