My first skiing weekend (summary) and a question

It was probably the most fun skiing I've had in a long time. Just the stoke that I had going on was amazing. Couple ruts, but whatever (snow sucked, buddies were being dicks today).
But I had to relearn a lot of stuff, such as confidence trying jumps, and also trying to learn new stuff like butters.
I came off of a couple bad injuries last season (ankle and back injuries). How did you get back into the game, NS? I really don't want to hurt myself again as I still feel twinges in my back every now and then.

if you want to get back into the flow you had last year you just gotta go for it. my first day i always have to convince myself to do the stuff i could stomp easily last season.

Take it easy, but keep improving little by little.

just drop it like its hot so that all the snow bunnies will want in your pants... that should be enough motivation to land stuff.

you just gotta go rip man. Do stuff you think you wont get hurt on. And if you're doing something you think you'll get hurt on, think about how you'll get hurt, so you're ready for it.

It was weird though...I mean, my confidence level is SO low for jumps. Last year, even with the injury I was still skiing. Yeah it hurt, but I was trying at least.
thanks for the tips, and next weekend I'll just bump the music and try to let 'er rip.

First off if it hurts, you probably shouldn't jump. You don't want a fucked up back at your age, give your body time to heal and make sure your doctor knows exactly what you do. Jumping is different from simply skiing. Secondly, nobody is going to impart any magical wisdom on you to get back in the game. The only way you will regain confidence is wanting it badly enough to just go do it. It will come back. But sometime it takes longer or even shorter than you imagine, It is up to you. I've been there before, good luck. Meanwhile, start small and make sure you back is good to go take those hits and impact.

Coincidentally, I have an appointment with an orthopedist tomorrow so I'll see if anything is still wrong. It doesn't hurt from any impact, it's more of a short-lasting soreness that pops up for a couple days on an on-and-off basis. It's more of an annoyance rather than a hinderance to skiing.
Thanks, though. I just wanted to see what others had done, and now I know. If it's too serious, that will be too bad and I guess I should probably rest up, but I doubt it is so I'm just going to go for it this weekend.

im with you. i don't know bout you guys but i don't think i really lose anything in the season to season gap. if i was confident doing it in the previous year, this year i am confident doing it aswell. Always start small but when you think its time to go for your trick- go for it. rip it the way you imagined and pictured yourself skiing. im talking realistic tricks. if you know you can do it, and you know you should be able to do it- go for it. you just gotta be confident.

I dunno what to tell you. Last year, I broke my collar bone in december last year, I was out for 8 weeks, but the whole time I was only thinking about skiing and by the time I came back I was ripping harder than I ever had and I wasnt scared of shit. I just adopted the attitude that I had to make every day count because being out sucks and it makes you realize how short each season is...
