Surgery or no surgery

So last year i hit a burried rock and fliped over onto it straight to my elbow last season.  When i went to the hospital at first they said it was no big deal just a bruise...It was nagging all summer and once I started to go to the gym again it really started hurting.  Now i have a huge lump where my mussle is all messed up.  When i went in a little while ago to get it checked they said it was deffanalty a special case, none of the olympic sports med doctors have seen it before.  I guess the ligament or what ever it is that hooks the mussle to the bone is poped.  Somehow my arm can still move without crazy pain or that much of a limited movement.

Tommorow I have to go in to get a MRI on it to make sure that they are completly positive on whats wrong.  If they are correct i have to get surgery to repair my elbow.  Only problem is that i wont be able to lift anything over 5 pounds for 2 months or so and it will pain for another month after that.  I can live with the pain that i have right now for now. 

Now my question Has anyone ever put off a surgery like this.  They say it cant really get much worse unless i do basically the same thing on it so i was thinking about waiting till after the ski season is done.  Do you think this is a stupid idea or can i be fine waiting.


....i probably wont take anyones advice on this 100% seeing as none of you are MD's but any kind of imput is always good Thanks

I'd play it safe an get surgery, unless this is your "breakout year" an you blew everything to go out west or something

I had an elective surgery on my ankle when i was a junior in high school, It sucked.  I was out way more than the had told me, and it sitll gives me trouble a lot..  If you can live with the pain I say wait till after ski season.

i think you should focus more on the long term affects, which would be having full mobility in both arms. Not being able to move one arm for a few months is gonna be tough, but afterwards you'll probably be fully mobile without any pain

thats the thing..he said that he thinks as long as i dont land straight onto my elbow on a rock again or something i cant hurt it any worse,  Right now it doenst hurt that bad right now its just something that i have to get done eventually or it'll always be stiff and hurt at times

i wouldnt put it off. if you fuck it up even more, you may never ski again. but if you get surgery, its only like 2 half months. chew on that for a while. ultimatley, it comes down to whetther or not instant satisfaction is more important than future satisfaction.

i say put it off till end of season


but is there a good chance of you hitting it like that again then i would get it done now

like if you still fall alot like i do in the park then you should probably get the surgery

if not then wait

you should definately get the surgery because the pain may not be bad now, but it could get unbearable and then the surgery list is all filled up and they can't get you in for another 2 months and that sucks. Then it is 2 months were really bad pain and not being able to lift anything, so definately go  with surgery

im already looking into getting a good skate elbow pad to put under my jacket when i ski.  I had my MRI today and its another few weeks before i get to hear back from the doc.  I have been living with it for a while so i might take timmis advice and just keep rockin with it till the summer
