How fast can you drive with a ski rack?

liek the title, i have a ski rack nto a roof box how fast can i drive safely with it? reason i'm asking is we want to get somewhere fast and with our gear lol so approx what? like 130-140?? km/h?

ive done 130mph going on the 395 up to mammoth...but thats a straight desrt road, and yes i did get a ticket, at 103 in a 65...and the cop gave us 99mph...or else its a felony

I dont really think that there is a limit, as long as its put on correctly.  I mean, I went like 80 90 MPH when I had mine.

i worked at a rack isntallation shop.

They say no more than 120 km/h / 70mph
But in reality if it is a Thule or a Yakima rack you can go alot faster than that. if its the kind that fit under the doors, and you have a big box i wouldnt go alot more than what they reccomend. But if its attaching to factory siderails  you can pretty much just giver

i got up to like 110 mph briefly in a friends car, but we were trying to keep good gas mileage, so i could have gone faster no problem, but that wasn't desirable.

I've gone at least 100 on I80 going to PC, you can go quite fast. If you're scared though lock your rack and it will have a smaller chance of popping open.

I hit 130 today on the freeway... being super late to work, with nobody on the road, and nowhere to setup a speed trap.

I have a 20 year old volvo station wagon with an even older rack. beat that shit...

yeah always lock it. no matter what.

you have no idea how many times i had to fix peoples shit that they broke for stupid reaons like not locking it or not tighetiing it down to the bars or driving into garages and shit.

I dont think you have to worry about the ski rack holding up. The only thing that ts going to change is your miles per gallon.

we once were driving on the highway in austria , it was night and we were driving around 120kph, thts 90mph i guess... when the car in front of uses loses his skibox, it flies of, hits the ground and flies open, all them shirts and jackets and wonderbras over the highway, hhaha !

But hey, drivin 90 on a dark highway and suddenly seein this big black thing flying of a car, going your way, thts not funny, if it'd hit our windshield we could've been seriously injured.... :(

i just have the rack, no box and it says the max recomended speed is 120 km/h but i have had it up over 200 km/h and nothing bad happened haha

I've only ever noticed alot of drag due to wind resistance, never too big of a problem though

And that lamborghini is so sweet haha.

i have seen my life flash in front of my eyes on the 395, stupid LA'ers thinking they can pass 4 trucks in a row...ive had to swirve so many times cuz theyre in the other lane and a they find out a semi is coming their way

Biggest thing you're gonna have to worry about is the gas you're gonna burn doing it. Even doing the standard 60-80mph drive to the mountain with my old rack on (thule flat ski carrier and a fairing, no box) would knock my gas mileage from like 25mpg to like 20mpg with the rack on. Boxes are even worse, and the drag just increases the faster you go.......... so 100mph will suck harder thanan asian hooker at an orgy.

I don't even have my rack on this year, it's a hell of a lot cheaper, and you can honestly get creative and pack everything in the car. Especially if you have an SUV.

while driving out west through wyoming with my ski box on my car I couldent go faster than like 50...but that was through 60 mph winds...the fastest I have gone with it on was like 110.
