Why do goggle lenses scratch so easily?

It's so frustrating! I have a pair of brand new Crowbars that I've only used three days so far this season, and I just looked at them and they have a couple scratches on them already! It's nothing major and you can't even tell when you're wearing them, but dammit, this seems to happen with all my goggles. No matter what I do, they always get scratches. I take super good care of my goggles too, I even have a hard case for them. What gives? Can't they make some scratch resistant lenses or something?

Get Smiths, the coating they use on their lenses makes them a lot more scratch resistant. I've dropped them in my driveway, and you can't tell.Â

I agree man. They should use the stuff that apple is using on their iPhone. You can take a razor to it and it doesn't leave a mark.

Are the rest of your goggles Oakley? The iridium (mirror) layer scratches pretty easy. I've had better luck with Spy but if you're scratching them, then that means you are rubbing them on things, just take care not to bang them into things

its much easier to make clear plastic scratch resitant. the mirror coating on lenses is applied as a coating over the lense which makes it more prone to scratching/chipping.
