alright so i have horrible shin pain every time i ski. no its not my fucking boots and i got a boot fit. its gotten to the point where i cant try anything good in the park and i cant enjoy my skiing very much because of my shin pain. i was wondering if i got acupuncture on my shins to do whatever it does, would i still get shin pain when i ski? would it work? thanks g's. (this has been going on since last year)
dude steezy jibber, i had the same problem as you for the past 2 years, but not anymore! loosin your boots, for real. dont tighten then as much as you can, just tighten them enough so you know its snug. and dont pull your booster strap mad tight either, just snug. ive been doing that and my shins are better than ever man
I had really bad shin pain then I switched to some softer boots and it pretty much went away. Yea I still get sore and my hair gets pulled out which is incredibly annoying but it's better than shin splints.
do you buckle your boots as tight as you can? like on the last knotch? dont. buckle on the second or 3rd to last knotch on all of them. ik exactly what u mean, when you lean or try to pop it hurts right?
yo dude to go your doctor's its important cuz you might have stress fractures. i had that and didnt know i had it cuz my legs were bascily partially broken for two season... so you might have to get a bone scan taken
i donno cause i have never done it but i get the same shin pain the last 2 years (i did order my old boots online cause theres NOT one ski shop up here and this year i got my boots fitted when i was in the lower 48, i have only skied one day this year and that was last sunday and i still had some shin pain form hiking! i had the boots loose and everything, nothing compared to the last 2 seasons but i am a little worried, if u do get that acupuncture done PLEASE tell me how well it works for you, how much does that cost anyways?
^ good point. I had stress fractures in both shins at the end of the season two years ago.
Seriously though, I know exactly the pain your talkin about steezyjibber. when i put on my boots every morning im like, fuck, i dont even want to ski this hurts so bad
I have "boot broken" me legs before, its worth getting checked out. It was back in High School and for half a season I would land shit perfect and still feel like I destroyed my shins.
I did acupuncture on my lower back for skiing and it was the trick. But stetch too.
Good luck, lean forward.
acupuncture works super well if u got somebody really qualified doing it for you. Depends on ur insurance, but usually theyll cover a certain amount of times. Try it and see how it works, it doesnt hurt and ull be impressed
you could try using some 'eliminator tongues/ which help to take volume up around the calf and get rid of shin bang. I got shin bang every day I skied without them and as a result if I skied 2 days straight, my skiing was alot worse on the second day as I couldnt pressure my skis properly cos my legs were to damn sore. You may want to cut the bottom off them as it can make your instep too tight.
I had the same pain last winter. I was taken massive quantities of Ibuprofen just so I could continue skiing. I never went to the doctor. it was either shin splints, or stress fractures in my shin.
Mine was caused from a few backseat landings that stressed the shin area.
i've had terrible shin pains over the last three seasons, and last season it got to the point where i could only ski through the park once, then take a ten min break and stretch, and so on. and i couldn't jump on any of the big jumps because if i landed backseat or outshot it i couldn't pull myself up because of the pain. anyways, turned out i have inflammation in both my shins and i've been to acupuncture on a sport clinic this fall and seriously, it's made wonders. definitely you shold try it. it sounds like you have the exact same porblem that i did, and when it hurt that much, stretching doesn't do it anymore, you have to go deeper into the muscles with needles. so that's my advise!
i never get shin bang. its weird. but for you, just crank those bitches down and when youre at home or something put em on and walk around and flex to get yo shit right.
dunno bout accupuncture but ice each shin for a half hour after you go skiing and in the morning before you go take 2 tylenols or equivalent and your shin pain should be gone./..
yes i know, i had this problem last year and icing them does miracles. once you finish icing them your shins will hurt a little more than before you iced them but when you wake up in the morning it will be better and after you take a couple things like tylenol your shins will be good as new again for the rest of the day. trust me. it works
Dude i'm goin with See a doctor about the issue, and see if it is or isn't stress fractures. If its that unbarable. Then see if its not stress fractures, ask him if he would recomend acupunture or not.
Also could be ur foot beds like try insoles possibly to support ur arch.
and if it is stress fractures you wouldn't even know that u had it cause u dont feel it, only on shin basically skiing
yep
acupuncture may sound like some crazy ancient ritual shit
but its been proven time after time after time to be very a very effective treatment
however... im not sure youll enjoy paying for it
about how much does it cost, is it one of those things you only need to get done once, or does it only works if you come in weekly or however often? how long does it work
the cost has a huge range, it can be anywhere from 50-5000, depending on so many different factors
my mom had it done for her neck, and the effect of it lasted about 2 months, after that her neck slowly faded back to pain again, shes also a doctor and it lasts about 3 months for the majority of her patients
it's really a confusing part of the medical world, theres so many theories and explanations about why it works, but no one agrees exactly one, but everyone agrees that it does work and is very effective
I have a solution for you. Let me make a few phonecalls and find out the website, but basically it is this electric shocker thing (Not powerful) that works like acupuncture, and you put it on a sore muscle or a knot or something, and it will relieve the tension. It's fuckin' crazy. I had a giant knot in my shoulder from skiing last year, shocked it 3 or 4 times and the knot disappeared. Lemme get that website for you in a bit.
My dad has something like that. It was kinda like a pen with like a metal tip, and a cord attached to it with a metal tip. And then using the 'pen' he could make some muscles twitch and stuff (by using nerve pressure points) and you can feel the electricity pulsing through your arm. It was cool
HUGE part of shin bang is landing back seat. Seriously... so many people think that fixing your boots will solve it, which will help but nothing like not landing backseat.
If you land backseat, just fall. Fuck it, you didn't land perfectly. Many times backseat landings are caused by an improper pop in your takeoff.... I've seen it a billion times. Someone says they have shinbang so bad they want to die and you watch them ski and they're just sitting on the toilet every time they land on a jump, rail, whatever...
Its your muscles tearing away from your shins and shit... bad news.
Also, check out the shintronic, its badass for shinbang!
you might wanna ask your doctor about compartments. theyre like little compartments in your leg that can be filled with liquid or whatever and if you get too much fluid in there they get under a lot of pressure and start to hurt like a bitch. in surgery they basically cut you open and cut these compartments open and let out the fluid so they dont hurt you so bad anymore.
