i really didn't find idea that "epic" or "progressive" there was an exception of like a few fucking sick lines and nice tricks but it seemed pretty boring to me... we watched and up and comers video and i liked it better lol...
I was amazed by the switch skiing and the huge hits to switch in powder, but I have to admit that the nopolin didn't impress me. but let's not start another debaate about poles, please, there've been enough.
i didnt really buy into the hype of it, i tried to stay pretty neutral, so i found the movie super duper awesome. love the no poles stuff and the switch blah blah blah. also, andy's flat 5 is the best trick ever
"lol im fuckin kiding stfu before i feed you my children"
I thought it deserved all the hype it got. It was completely different from any ski movie I have ever seen. Therefore making it "Progressive". I love the no poles in the pow, that is nothing I have ever seen before. I love the buttering from Pollard. That man has huge skill. I love the huge switch landings. Fucking crazy shit. I love the music. It wasn't your regular old rap songs in which every second word was "Fuck that n*gger". I love the type of movie it was. Overall, I love IDEA. It is definitely one of my top 2 favorite ski movies ever.
yeah simon dumont throwing pencil 1620s in the pipe definately beats andy's siiccckk switch cork 3. when you guys get your heads out of your asses and realize that idea had the best skiing, editing, soundtrack, and vibe of any ski movie, come holla.
dont like IDEA? then take ur 16 year old ass plop it in front of the tube and watch a REALLY sweet flick like ski porn. cuz i know u love fancy graphics, seeing all the riders names and sponsors, and lame rap and techno music.
What I really liked about the movie is the vibe and the feel of the movie
it's not a skiporn movie like all the others... even plehouse. Have you seen a movie with it's own soundtrack? I haven't...it's not the kind of movie that you watch the 2 sickest parts and then go ski. it's on it's whole that it's the best. They could have use less slo-mo but it's still my favorite
Backcountry takes time(travel, find spot, build jump, wait for conditions, stomp impressive tricks before the landing gets bombed out, maybe never get to hit it). There's a lot of factors working against you that many people don't realize until they try it themselves. It ain't easy.
i don't like it very much i think there are some nice jumps, lines and the cali p soundtrack is sick but all in all i think it is a little bit boring, but that's just my opinion...it depends on what sort of movie do you like, i'm defenitly a park rat and i like to see handrails and jumps and that's the reason why i love realtime for example...
i'm pretty sure all of you are reading into the threadmaker's comments a little too far, you guys are acting like he said the movie sucked, he never said that... Now I'm not one of those guys who buys every ski movie that ever comes out, so naturally when i was reading and hearing all this hype about Idea, i figured this would be one of the movies that i do buy. when it came in, i popped it in my DVD player, watched it expecting the most epic/progressive display ever, and was left at the end of the movie still looking for it. Yes there are a lot of sick tricks, yes there are a lot of sick lines, and YES THE MOVIE WAS GREAT (I repeat, the movie was great). But no, in my opinion, it didn't live up to the obscene amount of hype that it was getting before it came out. So yea i can relate to what the threadmaker is saying, sure it was a dope movie, i've watched it many times and enjoy it more every time. But it didn't live up to its considerable hype or as many were saying before it came out, "change the way people look at our sport". So in the threadmakers defense, i hear ya, Idea was sick, and i like it, but i think if there wasnt as much hype i would've liked it even more...
I liked it, don't get me wrong, but the hype got me pumped for something that wasn't as great as people hyped it up to be. The no-poles pretty much killed some of the hits for me (not all) and there really wasn't anything huge or mindblowing. There were some cool shots and hits, but nothing super progressive.
Most of the movie was also comprised of slow styley spins, that's cool, but it's also great to see someone really huck out a ten-eighty or a 1260. In YEAH DUDE I really enjoyed seeing Jon's whiskey flip in the pipe, and that 1260 octograb, that was super sick. I'm not saying that in IDEA they should have gotten rid of the slow spins, but they should have had some better flips/spins in there. I don't think I recall seeing a really advanced grab in there. They were pretty much all safteys, japans and mutes.
I also think the soundtrack could have been better. Sure, the chill music was cool, but it was the kind of music that puts me to sleep, there definitely should have been some fast pump-up music that raises your heartbeat in there. Overall it was good, not awesome but good. But I guess if you love powder, and ski powder a lot, IDEA is for you, but I enjoyed YEAH DUDE a lot more.
Idea was ok.
No poles killed some of it for me.
It needed bigger spins.
Grabs were simple.
Soundtrack was mediocre at best.
YEAH DUDE was better.
I Rip At Perfect North Slopes.
PM me for an invite to the PNS cult!
I just used up twenty-nine percent of my signature space!
i take it that some of this was directed at me so...
First lets give IDEA the credit i think it deserves. The mount Hood spring jump shoot was sweet. The filming, the tricks, floating over the rollers. it was dope. one of my favourite segments of all time for sure.
The rest of IDEA however, was way overated and most of the tricks they do are easy as hell. When i watch a ski movie i want to see something that i cant do, or i am really shocked by. Andy used to be sick before he dropped his poles and became "progressive". Now he flails all over the place, and ruins the shot.
This years movies have all been really good, and idea happened to come out in a year where all the movies are strong. From the movies i have seen i like Save, SSD, Yeah Dude, and Enjoy more than i liked idea. The only movie ive like less so far was PNW because i didnt really like the style of editing at all.
And to the kid i quoted or most of the people whose responses ive seen in this thread. Go watch Follow Me Around, Picture This, and Pop for good editing.
