Junior Paper Topic

So this year I have to write a big research paper on anything I want. It has to be something interesting that I know nothing about, but would be fun to research. So pretty much most things that are ski-related are out of the question. So if anyone has any ideas about something that they want to know more about or that would be an interesting topic any help would be appreciated.

I'm thinking of writing about Atlantis or Quantum Physics/Superstring theory and its application in everyday life. Any help would be most appreciated.

research if marijuana is really that bad for you or not (it will make you look good for the teacher, saying you dont know anything about weed)

i really don't think teachers care if you smoke weed or not, just as long as you do your work you could be taking crack as a sepository and they wouldn't care.

I wouldn't do it on weed. too many people do that for their junior/senior paper. I did mine on population control and how maybe we should start implementing it. my main argument was along the lines of... the poor, uneducated, and prison bound are the ones having 6-7 kids while the upper class is scraping by with two. and without some sort of population control, our country will eventually turn into a hell hole. 

I don't necessarily believe that, it was just fun to argue that point.
pick something that is controversial. just don't pick something that is cliche like weed or abortion

As ryanwar6 already noted, picking something controversial is definitely a safe bet.  However, I would stay away from the war, religion, abortion, etc for obvious reasons.  Try to think of something you want to know more about and it will make the research much more enjoyable.

The rastafari movement and its impact on society would be a good topic.  Or you could do it about graffiti.
