Always do your homework...
So a kid in my bus comm class didn't do his reading homework, basically what we do is read an essay then form a roundtable discussion on the article and basically practice communication skills. So the kid doesn't read/research the article, and to try and sound like he did so he starts tearing it apart saying "the author is trying to sound to smart" and its "all just common sense, and "the author has no idea what he's talking about"... then after his big rant, the professor says, "so you didn't like the author eh", and the kids like "no not at all", and the professor is like "did you notice who the author was?". Turns out he wrote the article haha, so the whole time the kid was insulting the professor on his work...

So the prof assigned his own essay?
Thats a dick move...
And the sign said long-haired freaky people need not apply,
So I tucked my hair up under my hat
And I went in to ask him why,
He said, "You look like a fine upstandin' young lad.
I think you'll do",
So I took off my hat and said, "Imagine that,
huh , me workin' for you."
not really, he gave us the essay to read over, then do some external research and discuss our findings in a business format... it's a business comm course so the actual content isn't really that important, it just gives us something to talk about to practice our communication skills in that kind of environment

man i hate when professors make you read their work. that should be against the rules of education!
i had this phil. class where every 2 weeks the teacher would change and they taught us the subject they were a specialist (had papers published) for. well it sounded great on paper. the problem was that every two weeks i had to learn how the teacher taught and didn't form any relationship with them. On top of it one of the teachers had a studder....thank god he only lasted 2 weeks. that shit was funny the first 30 minutes and then it got very old.
anyway, each of these teachers would present some sort of background about the philosophy we were learning about then conclude that their argument made the most sense and had us read their papers and "understand" it. if you felt differently and argued for the other authors in the course you got an F or low grade on the paper. I wrote 5 of the 7 papers with my personal opinions towards which ones i felt were most accurate to my views and failed them all (even after having my sister-a harvard grad and CU law grad-edit and correct stuff that didn't sound right. she's a really good writer as well...but me, not so much.) so for the last two papers i just agree'd with the professors papers and reitterated what they had wrote and got B's. fuckin' bull shit. i thought that class was going to be fun and allow me to argue for my opinions as long as i had logic behind them.
oh to further emphasize the homework philosophy of letting your professor read what they want to hear. I had this sociology class "Social Problems" and the whole class was about how easy white males have it in the social struture of united states. well, being one of the only two white males in the class i was fucking pissed. they degrade everything i have to do in my life to be successful because of my race and sex. the classes views were essentially expressioning that I get A's because i show up, not because i do quality work and give a shit. fuckin' bitches, how can that even be a legitiment class? anyway, so my asian female teacher is having us write papers that express our opinions. one topic was "do you believe it is fair for police to target projects for crack busts instead of white suburbia households" or some shit like that. anyway i voiced that if it works and they're making their quota then why stop targeting that area. it would be in the best interests of the people in the projects to have that area cleaned up and the druggies removed. also, if race isn't an issue then they're doing what's right by going where the drugs are. well my teacher was pissed and wrote all over my paper these stupid rebuttles that had absolutely nothing to do with my arguments and gave me a "C". so at the end of the semester she gave me a B+...i cearly deserved a solid A for the quality of my work and the grades i recieved on my tests. so i wrote her an email expressing the disgust i had with how she graded my papers and that she was close minded to my point of view becuase i was a white male. she changed my grade to an A after a couple emails and a threat to turn my papers in to the sociology office for review...that racist bitch.
anyway......so, that was off topic. i don't agree with teachers using their own papers as content for their class. at least not for graded material. on the other hand, i've had some professors simply hand their papers out and say, "read it, email me your opinions. i'd love to hear them. good arguments/thoughts earn a point of extra credit." that i do agree with, because its a way to constructively get their views out there but they make the analysis of their paper insignificant to the final grade students recieve.
Help me bump my brother's songs on our local radio station, click this link:
slow connection? click this one instead:
hahaha that sucks
"honey what do you want for breakfast'
"bacon and eggs please'
"what was that?"
"fucking bacon and eggs!"
i've had multiple class where the instructor has passed out work they have written and asked us to do something with. i never had a problem with it. i kind of like it because it would show me what kind of work the teacher is capable of doing. if the teacher has any credibility or respect at all they would not grade your work on the the quality of the work you turn in and not on whether it agrees with the teachers stuff, if applicable.
i'm glad though that i'm long passed the days of daily homework assignments for the most part. basically i jsut need to show up for lectures and labs and listen to what the docs are sayin then learn the rest outside of class on my own and have a few tests over the semester.
