Well i visited PSU this weekend and am very impressed with the school. PSU is kind of a family tradition so im considering it. i went an saw tussey mtn though and i gotta say im not too impressed. i wasnt expecting much but it looked like they only have like 4 runs. so two questions.
1. how do you like tussey? (park, snowmaking capabilities etc.)
2. how often to you get to ski elsewhere?
A bunch of my buddies go to school there who ski. They said that Tussey sucks compares to most PA mountains. I guess the park was non existent for most of last year. I do not think there is a shuttle or bus that goes to the mountain although there is a club that goes up to Killington each year and makes a few other trips.
Basically yeah... Tussey sucks. The Snowboard Club (which includes almost all freeskiers and lots of other skiers too) is the prominent force on campus and at tussey as far as the Park is concerned. Our club is about 400 students strong and we take various trips during the winter.
The club goes to Killington for a weekend, Quebec City for a week, and Stowe for a weekend. So, we get around. In addition to this, we have Tussey Tuesdays each week and travel to other mountains around PA on a lot of the weekends.
Tussey is a pretty small mountain and has a piss poor park most of the time. I've never seen a real jump in the park (Aside from the big air competition that the snowboard club puts on each year.) They usually have a few small rails and boxes, but nothing great.
I can pretty much guarantee you that you wouldn't want to go to Tussey more than 1 or 2 times a week because it really is that boring... But, if you do want to go, there IS a bus that runs to and from the mountain from a few locations on campus each day. It stops in front of East Halls where most of the freshman end up living. But, you have to pay 1.25 I think for the bus ride.
Hope that helps! Hit me up if u have any more questions.
so if i go to psu then about how many days can i expect to ski per year? right now i get about 50 days (shooting for 70 this year) at a 400' hill that has a pretty legit park. i'd be happy if i got about 20 or so days at legit mountains and like another 20-30 at tussey. also maybe a good idea for ur club would be some sort of rail jam on campus
