Marker Duke vs. Alpine trekkers? other ideas?

I am 5'7" 145lbs. I have a pair of the Surface Live Life on pre-order from Jibij, I can't wait till they show up. I am in the middle of a binding debate. I have checked the TGR forums and I got more conflicting info from people who i have very little in common with i.e skiing styles/weight/needs. I ski in Colorado 60% in bounds all mountain, 30% BC booters/Steeps, and 10% half-pipe all of these agressively. I am contemplating the Marker Duke or using my pre-existing 3 year old look pivot jibs with Alpine trekkers. I have read the Powder Magazine and Freeskier Buyers Guide and the new review in the Oct 07 Freeskier on Dukes. I like the idea of the Duke, but the weight scares me and durability for pipe riding with any other touring binding brand causes worrry as well. I have had major issues with markers when I was younger, the old pre-release, not release problem. I have been exploring getting some alpine trekkers for my brief exploits into BC activity. Although It seems like they have nothing but negative reviews with durability and ease of use. Also reports of them not working well with look heel pieces. Does any body have any real-world experience with any of these products or ideas of other brands that will suit my quest for a 1 ski quiver to suit my skiing needs. All help is appreciated. p.s I am sick of boot packing it everywhere for freshies off piste.

Its gonna be hard to shred pipe with touring bindings. Its not reeealy what they are meant for.
Take a chance on the marker binders, theyre a whole new setup and idea. wider binding instead of a wider break. Seems simple, but they kinda took the first leap.
Maybe try it out, im sure there is a warantee on the shit, Im sure theyre solid.

maybe get a fritschi freeride but they arnt good for pipe but the rest is fine or maybe a naxo nx21

interesting fact the dukes weigh in at 5.5 pounds and so did the look px 12's i just purchased for my father of off sac. i am going to go weigh my look pivot jibs and see how much they weigh.

I gave them a once over at a shop recently. Really beefy, cool release system, and yes, solid as shit. Still, I cant give a review of a binding I havent skied. They sit you a little high, which might make pipe and park a little weird. If you have the money, go for the Dukes, if you dont, Trekkers. Trekkers work, plain and simple, and I have no negative comments for them.

I'm contemplating the same question you have. The duke looks sweet, but I don't want to be high off the ground like standard touring bindings... Duke seems to solve that problem. Duke is expensive.
Last season I just bought Securifix, which is like a trekker for $40. They get the job done for light touring, get you to where you have to go, but are very tricky when sidehilling because you are so high off the skis. It's a heavy setup. Nice part is you don't dedicate your skis to only touring, you just always have the option. Seriously think about how much backcountry you will actually do. If money was not an object, and you really want to have the touring versatility, I'd say get the Duke!

They can be found in Play it again sports in Salt Lake. They are euro and discontinued, they don't make them anymore, I don't know if there are any still around or not, but they are ok for the price!

ok, ive used alpine treckers and skied just about everywhere with my friends fritchi's, never used the duke, but if i were you i would go with trekkers. i used them with my fks 155's last season for a few tours and they worked great. you just have to make sure you step into them correctly. if you are skiing mostly at a resort you don't want a touring binding on your ski, its that simple. thats why it is called a touring binding. i would never drop a cliff or spin off a jump with them let alone boost in the pipe. i have no knowledge of the duke but i would give it another year or 2 as with all new things for small problems to get sorted out. anything further i can answer to help you? i live in Colorado as well and all my experience is here.

i'm buying a pair of dukes for this season. but i wouldn't if i were you. trekkers definitely sound like a better option. the main drawback with trekkers is that you have to have ample space in your pack to tote those heavy bastards back to the bottom. really, it's not even that big of a deal. they're awesome for using here and there while not compromising your ski's resort effectiveness. if you're going to be riding pipe and spending most of your time in alpine mode, stick with conventional binders with the trekkers.

Look bindings will work with trekkers - I've used this combo quite a bit in the past. The issue is when you're touring across the flats without any slope. When you're not using the trekker's incline bars, the trekker can hit the look heel peice which gives you unneccessary lift. Not the most comfortable, but it still works.
Did that make sense? Kinda hard to describe.
That being said, I'm upgrading to Dukes this year. And I wouldn't take Dukes in the pipe...save up and buy a dedicated park set up if you can.

i am so confused. If work goes the way i want it to, I am going to get dukes and then get a pipe/all mountain setup with my looks, something like a pipe cleaner or ar6 for carving and pipe because thats about all the park i do anymore, no rails. But if not I think the trekkers are what i will end up getting. man i wish i could just buy many skis and bindings. oh cruel world...haha what a tough life having to chose what skis and bindings to purchase. we should all be stoked on the season coming up, keep your heads up fellas and ladies the season is coming. I can feel it. and on sad note i am off to go get an mri on my brain, moral of the story where your helmets. thank you all for the advice.

I am kinda in the same dilema as you right now. It is a toss-up between Dukes and Trekkers for me. I think I am definitely going with the Trekkers, though. Cheaper, and I have the option to run them on any of my skis which is a big draw for me, without remounting.

trekkers are crap. waste of money. i don't ride park too much but i use nx 21 every day. def. much better than freerides and cheaper (and lighter) than the duke.

i have trekkers and i dont like them that much, there practical for small hikes but when you really start lettin er buck they seem to either pop out or malfunction in some way
