Haha, I work in a pizza shop, and people come in asking how big our 16inch pizza is.
My response: "well, do you know how long a foot is? about 4 inches longer then a foot." (with the appropriate hand measurements demonstrating a foot to them)
I don't know where you get skis, but if the markup is really 200%, let me know the shop so I can work there and get paid a lot more than what I make now. Big box stores like Dick can get a little larger discount because of the volume they buy, but it is NOWHERE near 200% markup. REAL shops have REAL skiers working there, not for the money, but because they love the sport and want to see it progress and grow. 50% off sales are to get rid of old merchandise and free up money to buy the new stuff. If the margins were that great, you would rarely find a shop owner woking in the shop.
while working in the rental shop that clearly states they only sell and rent ski boots, skis and poles..
ME: what type of skis would you like to use while your on vacation?
CUSTOMER: a dual directional snowboard.
