i have an HVX, which records onto P2 cards, and it destroys any mini-dv footage.
I apologize, that was an utterly useless post. Almost all NTSC hard drive cameras encode video in MPEG-2 format, and MPEG-2 severely limits your editing options. Mini-DV is also preferable in that there is no video compression. And you can save all your raw Mini-DV footage as archives. And with Mini-DV you have control over the DVD compression.
IMO, Mini-DV is preferable to hard drive and DVD recording, unless you're shooting in HD.
