I took a class on freediving last year in Kona and it was the probably the best thing I've ever invested in, I was just curious if anyone else freedives or has gotten good at holding their breathe, if so how long can you hold it for? and how deep can you dive?

in the class i found out everyone can hold it for like at 4 minutes easy, its just knowing how to do it, there was a 52 year old woman who broke 3 minutes and she was closterfobic

it's a really strange mental/physical discipline...somewhat suicidal, if you look at how many of the greatest freedivers have died. It's pushing physical limits, but I highly enjoy being underwater and holding my breath, weightless, in the silence of the ocean/pool.
I recommend the classic movie called "Le Grand Bleu" (Deep blue in english?), by Luc Besson, really awesome.

pssh no excuse, so do i and i get 2 and a half out of water(in water is easier). you just have to focus on other things. when david blaine was going for the record i remember him saying that he goes through the alphabet in his head and tries to think of someone he knows with the name that starts with the letter.
the way i do it is just in school. get interested in the thing that's being taught, and just concentrate on that. only reason i really practice it is because when im surfing i wanna be able to get pulled under and beaten around and still be realxed knowing that i can hold my breath until the waves go by.
i find it just a cool thing to practice because you never know if there's an emergency situation when you could use it.

i can get a good 2 min.+ if i just tell myself not to breathe. you might think you need a breath but you dont. you just have to tell youself your fine and think of other shit. not too hard, i almost pass out after like a little over 2 though. or so it seems.

I actually read an article on Freediving in my dad's Pacific Yachting magazine, and it sounded pretty cool.
It also said that humans have evolved from the water, and could dive to hundreds of feet before without breathing. Now, average pro freedivers can hold their breath for around 7 mins. No joke, research done.
I used to freedive with a snorkel before, it was fun. Now i Scuba, though, and that's even better

only like a minute in a cold pool so in a hot tub or warm pool probably like a minute and a half

i like just blowing out all my air and sinking to the bottom of a pool and sitting there. i can only stay down for like 30 seconds but its still fun

technically they dont KNOW that we evolved from water although they think that. the two toss ups are either evolved from water or the savanna.....who knows. i think water though i forget what it is we get when were developing that relates to water and then disappears. that last sentence doesnt make much sense but i dont wanna fix it.

i learned from the same guy who taught him, most guys in the class could get around 5 minutes and dove around 80 to 120 feet. I would go down
and stay at the bottom and everything
is so blue and amazing and i would think about how much i hated my math class and i would stay down longer haha

i do the same thing, but with surfing it's suuuch a different situation. when the waves are big and i go under it's so hard to be relaxed, even though I'm only under for less than ten seconds. in that situation I run out of air so quickly. in school a friend and I would sit there and hold our breath to see who could do it for longer. we were hitting two minutes in class. it was funny when the teacher called on us and we start to breath all heavily and out of breath and they're like wtf

^^yea it's def harder when in the ocean duckdiving or when you wipe out, but just saying to myself that i can hold my breath for long helps me realize that i'll be ok. it really helps come winter time when water temps are under 50. in reality i could prob hold my breath for like 20 seconds max in that temp water, but if i just say to myself that i can do it longer, i'm so much more relaxed and come up ok most of the time.

yeah, I understand what you're saying. and duck diving a ton of times in a row while constantly paddling is hella hard.
