Pro "newschool" skiers that can actually ride park appreciation thread!

For the last 3 years we have had pro skiers get ok at riding park then run away to "the backcountry" or "alaska" almost just so they can avoid direct comparison to the kids. Sure they cant cab right 7 octo or 270 on 450 pretzel but fuck you because they are better than you at something you will probably never get to ride! Its tough work staying better than the kids these days when everyone is killing it, and it sure is easy to put your hands in your pockets, grab some super fat skis, and ride around like you dont care while same tricking the 11 year old girl in front of you.

This is for dudes like corey vanular, liam downey, mick, sammy dumont, and simon carlson who actually ride park and stay relevant with thier tricks - putting themselves up for direct comparison with the shit you throw every day and still slaying the backcountries.

As for the other guys, I would rather go to alaska on my travel budget than try to stay better than all those 4bi9 kids at park too, just stop whining about the kids these days when noone cares about your new video part.

ya simon carlson ends in "on" both times, kind of a toungue twister. but i see what u mean, its true, but then there are people who accomplished a lot in the park and decided to mellow out and do the notorious "best skiing" in alaska. those people would be i guess tanner even though he says he is trying to be a viking

I think I see what you're saying... but I'm not sure if I agree. Taking your park stuff to the backcountry just seems to be the natural progression of ability. Its a lot harder to throw a cork 7 off a cornice than a perfectly shaped park jump. Just from personal experience, park is alright, but being out in untracked somewhere is just a lot more fun.

the reason most of the pro's are in the backcountry is because they are basically retired
and its nice to see them in the movies because they are still good and are also our hero's or idols - just look at movies, even if someone isn't a good actor or the best for the role they still get the part because they are so well known and people will watch it

but i do agree that many of the newschool skiers are better than them because that is just how much the sport has and is progressing

Sorry for the  double post.  But this shouldn't even be a thread. 

If you are a pro skier, you've made it, people recognize your name and film companies are offering you a spot in a heli.  Youre gonna go fucking heliskiing.   It's stupid to stay in the park and try to train to see who can hold the grab the longest on their cab 10s or 14's.  Youd rather go drop cliffs and ski pow.  All the other pros can still hold it down in the park, they just choose to use the mountain as the park, which is what it should be.

Fuck the PARK skiing is the BCis way harder and better, why do you think there are a million kids now who can do fakie 10s ? casue all tehy do is ride the same park all day and train and train and train thats awesome and i envy them casue I cant do a fakie 10, but then can do a 360 of a 30 foot cliff or a 540 into pow, Do you have any idea how hard it is to filma video segmant? soo much effort goes into building jumps and getting shots thats thefuture of skiing park skiing has reached its peak,double flips, 810s on people spinning both ways the level of park riding is going through the roof. and mad respect to those guys.. but your not a true skier till you can actually ski big mountain , and im not talking about riding pow at some resort out west and droping a 10 footer.
