I HAVE BEEN VINDICATED! Check the Media forum thread, but I suggested a while ago that someone use Wolf Like Me by TV On the Radio for a ski movie.

As much as I hate MSP because of the similarity of their movies since Ski Movie 3, there was some sick skiing in that trailer.

I agree whole-heartedly. 

They are douchebags.


The skiing in the trailer was sick.  But come on, if they have to have something in the cheesy commentary, they can at least have something out of the ordinary.  Everything on that commentary was cliche and played(something along the lines of theres a fine line between craziness and perfection).  

I have to hand it to msp though, at least this year they didn't outsource and get someone to edit their trailer for them and that person use the cash cow tutorial.  Although, Im not convinced they actually did it themselves, jsut that it wasn't an editing software tutorial. 


And Seven Long Days: Short Stories from a Long Winter.  WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT SHIT.  Way to totally take the name from Berman's movie last year.  so fucking gay. 


Btw, with that anti msp thread and the tbc thing.  They disputed that, but msp has never disputed the phone message on the high 5 hidden features.  steve winter's a douche. 


MSP has a large budget, but they never do anything with their movies.  You can say its a formula.  I think it's more than that.  Just different skiers, locations, and shots.   Poor Boyz has more creativity(seriously, I love PBP and no offense to them.  They are just not plehouse).  Im not calling for msp to be plehouse or anything else.  They should just not be msp(at least what msp has been since ski movie 3).  their movies USED to be good.  ski movie 3 is in my top 5 favorite movies, but each movie is the same.  Oh, and it would be fine making the movies similar if they were good, but msp lacks in that area too(at least since sm 3).


One last thing.  I dont(and im sure the rest of ns) hate msp cause its all big mountain.  I love tgr.  They are douchebags.  They dont try to hurt smaller companies.  FUCK MSP and their bullshit.

That is pretty much why I really don't like MSP movies.

They simply just don't change the movies. They end up being extremely dull because they are merely carbon copies of their preceding movie, while the skiing content changes. To compound that, the editing blows, the voiceovers give me migranes, the fascination with slow motion on every shot is a tad tiresome (read: extremely tiresome) and they sure looove those helicopter shots, which were cool in Yearbook, but for fucks sake that was years ago now. I saw hitlist randomly, and damn I'm glad I didn't provide a single penny to MSP; the trailer for it was decent (although it straight up copied simple online tutorials or something) but the end movie was redundant and the aforementioned carbon copy. The trailer for the new one looks sick, but its just a fucking trailer. Their movies don't deliver.

Thank you for the first competent rebuttal, if nothing else. But there is a difference between having a style, and making the same movie year after year. PBP is almost as bad as MSP, but a little better. Great skiing from top-notch pros, but stagnation on the filming/production side of things. I'd say Plehouse is the best big company at making fresh feeling movies, but still keeping their signature style. MSP makes a quality movie with high production values, but its the same movie every year.

They could of at least had the common courtesy to ask me to simply remove it. And I've already explained how it was more of a free advertisement for an old ski movie they dont even sell anymore. But they decided to be assholes, so fuck them.

same shit + jon and schiller. theyre the most unoriginal film crew in the history of filming. im always stoked to see another 180 added to last years highest spin at the whistler sunset shoot though.

dude i don't know what y'all are bitching about, that shit was off the charts.  does msp make the same movie every year with different skiing?  yeah sure.  but they sell a bazillion copies of their movies for a reason.  their shit is sick!  some of those big mountain shots were amazing.  dudes going like 60 miles per hour over exposure.  gnarly.

...and Colby West, James Heim, and CR - all this MSP hate is such ridiculousness... they've brought 5 new skiers to their film this year and they still get shit on for being unoriginal - these guys are doing their best to create "creativity"... yes, they have a ton of resources, and they use them - they travel all over the globe, get exclusive shoot time at resorts, and have the top athletes in their films... I don't see the issue there at all... regardless of the stigma that comes along with a new MSP film every year, why don't some folks here at least recognize the fact that maybe, just maybe, they're potentially putting out a kick ass ski flick?

and I say potentially because I have not seen the whole movie, just the teaser like all of you guys, but I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt on this one...

ya know, I agree that there has been some uniformity to the films they've produced in the last few years, but here's the thing... the Ski Movie Series was epic - I think that's pretty undisputed... Yearbook was the first film with the Whistler sunset shoot, and I will have a hard time believing you if you tell me that the first time you saw that you were not impressed... Hit List, eh, basically sucked imo... Push was not nearly as groundbreaking as YB, but it was a damn good movie with a killer soundtrack, and to boot you got Pull if you bought Push - and Pollard's edit in Pull was worth buying both movies... one of the most unique and creative segments I have ever seen... so that leaves Hit List as a not so good flick, Push is what it is, a double feature that may not have been the best movie front to back, but had enough segments that were very good to make it a good movie... this is all in my opinion obviously, but I only see one movie in the last three years that was a disappointment which is no reason to indict a production company as a whole.

Mother of god, do you people even read? Not one person in this thread has said it is going to be a bad movie. Quality riders, quality cameras, plus it's pretty easy when you just update the same ol' template with the current year's clips/music. Oh man, moar ryderz!!1 MSP IS AWSUM AND ORIGINAL

Why would you ever waste your time bad mouthing a ski production company? I would say Jealousy. Maybe MSP should stop doing sunset heli shots and every other film company should stop filming from the nuckle of jumps, or from an adjacent mountain, or head cams, or maybe everyone should stop filming all together. Its all been done before. Maybe no more movies at all. If you have a new trick then shoot it on a crapy camera from a crappy angle and put it on You-Tube and that will be that. .

Wake up and find something else that matters to direct your hate. Your wasteing your time.

Did anyone who keeps saying that MSP puts out the same EXACT film every year even watch Push? Let's see...
1) Requiem for a dream intro. Totally unique to ski movies
2) Simon solo full halfpipe segment. Dope.
3) Full big mountain live audio segment. Totally different and a risk.
4) Just one ski BASE shot (should make some of you happy)
5) A segment of two people skiing in every shot. Different.

That's a substantial chunk of the film right there, all unique. Sure a lot of the movie was similar to years before, just like every movie L1P, MDP, PBP, the Bigger Picture and anyone else puts out. Everyone's got a certain style, and few companies stray too far from that style from year to year. You just straight up hate MSP so much (mostly from misinformation and unfounded rumors) that you can't even acknowledge when they do something new.

You don't like them, so what. Let other people make decisions for themselves.

i honestly felt semi-deja-vu while watching it, like re-edit or something, you sort of get stoked on it but not that much.

you have to differentiate between what the athlete contributes and what the company does to the final product. msp takes PROVEN athletes, PROVEN cinematography techniques, PROVEN music, PROVEN editing techniques, etc.

doesn't anyone else see a problem with how popular pollard's self-edit was? (and i would also argue pep's self edit from ski porn (anyone want me to post that on youtube?))

he did the majority of MSP's job for them. music, editing (feel/flow). and everyone fucking loved it, because it was great.

when it comes down to it, MSP doesn't take risks, which at first is understandable, given that the last "risk" they whole-heartedly supported was BASE-skiing.

however, "risks" in ski movies aren't really that risky, because when it comes down to it, the people that buy ski movies (us) will like it no matter what (especially if you still have a feel for the pulse of what's cutting-edge). so you come to a decision..take risks, and try to improve the industry, or don't because due to the small probability that people will hate it? i feel like MSP no longer knows where skiing is going and is afraid to take risks.

who is MSP more like--- neil or warren miller?

Yeah cuz those were nominated for an emmy....MSP's athletes do all the work and put their shit on the line everyday, and that is fuckin awesome....They get nominated for an emmy....damn that takes talent, and skills im pretty sure.... their athletes get rewarded by gettin put on the big screen year to year, and i think this stokes them out, as for sponsers being stoked, no camera skills needed here..... and hey New inteligence group guy, all the hate and shit you talk about them, talk about it after your movie gets nominated for movie of the year a couple/decade in a row, wins a couple of times and year after year puts out the one of the best selling/most seen movies of the year....Seriously good luck with the shit talking and movie sales...your soo on your way....By the way no disrespect to MDP by this comment those movies are fucken ill....im just a lil ill by all the shit talked on this site that isnt backed up in this industry.....
