oh not to worry sean, essentially if you have any outdoor credentials (and you certainly do) you are unlikely to get hired (there are a few good people). some guy was workin in the climbin section the other day, talking to a guy, and he had no clue what an etrier was, but he was trying to explain it to this guy anyway, and he explained it as though it would be great for using on his boat...
Now I don't even aid climb or have any ambition to aid climb, but I knew what a fuckin etrier was and i didn't even work there, especially the climbing section. Rediculous. It's essentially the same with REI in general; they've dropped their ways for the easy snag: clothes and shit. Hell, they have a larger area for god damn sandals than they do for climbing equiptment. Just try to find a decent selection on 4 season tents (in-store that is). This is the same store that sponsored a successful K2 expedition back in the early '80s. No more.
Lost are the ways.

But as long as its like 8 minutes from me, Ill no doubt go there. But still

Fucked my skis, those assholes didnt properly remount them for my boot, they just cranked the heelpiece as forwards as it would go and fucked one of them in the process, which made me have to remount them. Seriously, REI is only good for the deals you can get. For advice on equipment, stay the fuck away.

Also, the Redmond store is hilarious. On the upper deck, they have this dude working customer service... the floor shakes when he's nearby. He must be 300 lbs. Going out doors for him must mean the walk from his car to his house.

Probably, but if you have any amount of knowledge on any of the activities they endorse, you pretty much won't get hired.

There are people that work at REI who are pretty core... but at the same time, a lot of them have no idea what's going on.

yeah i was a cashier there it was like working at a food co-op. Everyone buying life is good long sleeve shirts in 35 different earth tones to go along with their cliff bars and nalgene bottles.
