Car Stereos

I wanna upgrade the sound system in my car, but don't really know where to start. I don't have a ton of money to spend, but want something that sounds good (like a 7 out of 10). Anybody have any suggestions and/or tips on what to buy. And I don't want a woofer taking up my whole trunk.

yo, go with an ALPINE deck. They are sorta expensive, but so worth it. As long as you have a dope deck then you will have good sound, unless you wanna replace your speakers too, which would be best. But that gets expensive. Trust me, ALPINE stereos and speakers are sooo nice.

fuckin dumbass^^ when oyu have a deck, it will say usually somewhere around 45x4 or somewhere around there, more or less depending on how powerfull your deck is. a deck has minimal effect on how your car sounds, some, but not much. i would recommend rockford fosgate, by far the best stereo stuff out there, but quite pricey. you just have to go by sound, max watts and peak power handling. when you go to buy wire, make sure it is quality, beleive it or not wire has an effect on how a stereo sounds. if you are puttin subs in, you will want to go with 8 guage wire if you are concerned with price. look on half.com or ebay. you will need around 20 feet of remote turn on wire, power wire, rca wires, and like 4 feet of ground. you will probably want to get rid of those stock speakers and invest in some good 6x9's with good high range(they have subs for lows). right now i have 2 polk 12's, 2 pioneer 12's, and 2 rockford 10's. i have a 2400 watt amp and 4 6x9's. my car thumps pretty good. if you have any questions feel free to message me

if you want power but minimal size then get either kicker, or rockford fosgate 12's unless you have a big trunk, then you should get an 18, but it just my oponion, as for speakers, get fosgate, kicker, pioneer, or alpine(most expensive).

haha, an 18? I didn't even know they made 18 inch subs, 15 is huge as it is.

Yeah but a deck does actually make a difference. Well it did for me because my old deck was shittyness.

i hate people that just put subs in their car..and nothin else..and it sounds like shit..and why do people even like for their car to 'thump'..it's not fun to have yer ears pounded by yer 2000' subwoofer..some nice clear sounding speakers all around with the full range of sound..not just woofers..is the way to go..you'll enjoy the music a lot more..

If you want quality sound then yes...replace everything (stock speakers only give you limited performance)In my opinion if you are strapped for cash now by a midrange deck and a good set of speakers and skip the amp and sub till you have the spare coin. There are tons of cars that sound amazing without the extra 'thump'. You just have to know how to tune it to get the sound you want, and you dont 100% need the top end decks, amps and subs like alot of the guys above said.
Depending on your knowledge of wiring and stripping cars it shouldnt take you much more then a day to get things going fine.

just buy any deck that will run you atleast 45 to each corner. i recommend pioneer cause their about the best quality for the price.

then if you can run yourself some 6.5 inchers in the front doors, anything around 150w. and some 6x9's in the back, anything around 200w.

youll be happy with that.

for as many people think that pioneer is top end it isnt. im not sayin that it is bad, just that there is way better stuff out there.

clarion decks are very nice, if you got the money jlaudio puts out some super nice subs, but before you make your car 'thump' get some good quality 6x9s and if and when you put sub(s) in look into getting some of the noise dampening padding so your car doesnt rattle

my jeep had an infinity system in it, i just added an amp and 1 12in. sub....sounds pretty good and i spent only like 250.

Everyone also forgot infinity. The infinity kappas are probably one of the best 6 by 9 on the market. Alpine is also good, it depends if you want to buy top of the line from like future shop or best buy, or actual car audio shops. As for hucksterjibber, I really hope that you are not running 4 subs off a 4 guage wire, and it is not good to have more than 2 feet of ground wire... if you want really clean sounding system it is key to get a new new deck, not sony, and new speakers all around your car, possibly a small amp to give it some exra power...
What the hell were they doing with a car on the moon?... havent they gone far enough?

Good decks - Alpine, Kenwood,
Good Speakers - Infinity, Boston Acoustics
Good Amps - Xtant, Rockford Fosgate, Phoenix Gold
LOUD subs - Kicker, Rockford Fosgate, JL Audio,
GOOD SOUNDING subs - Infinity, Boston Acoustics
ABSOLUTE CRAP - Sony, Pioneer, anything else they sell at Fucking WalMart

Dont EVER buy anything Sony or Pioneer for your car. Don't EVER buy Kenwood subs.

If you really care about how your music sounds be prepared to fork out the dough. My tab of car stereos since i was 16 is probably more than $8000 and counting. It still doesn't sound as good as i'd like it to, but i guess that's just me.

whats up with this audiobahn and infinity shit. i had an infinity amp once, and it was pretty loud, but everything else absolutely blows. rockford is the shit. also, you have to go with the enclosed boxes.; it will make the world of difference.

hahaha, rockford is good but it definatly does not blow any other sub out... take Kaption subs for instance, these competition subs will destroy rockford, basically any competition subs for that matter... and infinity is definatly not shit, they do have shitty lines of speaker and subs but their more expensive ones are good quality...

infinity does not blow whoever said that. My perfect 12's are almost three years old and they are still the best sounding subs i've ever heard. no they don't play as loud as my rockford power dvc 15 with 1800 watts running to it (got stolen) but the sound quality is fucking prime. i didn't even know they made car amps though thats news to me

ya, dont buy the rockford shit that you get at best buy or circuit city of what have you. you need to go to a car audi place. they can run circuit tesy and get your amp runnin at 1 or 2 ohms
