so i was going up the chair on the skiers left side of the mountain and underneath was all untracked powder just waiting to be ridden. there was a rope blocking off most of it, but a ways down it ended. i went under it only about 75 feet from the end to make 3 turns between rocks and there was a ski patrol on the lift who caught up to me about halfway to the next lift and told me all this shit about how thats illegal and the sheriff would need to be involved, and said he should be ripping my ticket but he just gave me a warning and i kept going. so i guess i kinda broke the rules, but hey, it was a sunny day, first run, and fresh powder.
pc is def. the place to go if you wanna hit jumps, but i'd say i like the rails at brighton more. there just more variety, and the urban style jumps just keep you on your toes and can make a not so cool rail more challenging and fun. But it's good to hit there jumps too, it helps with your improv skills.
I was at Brighton for a couple of days near the beginning of March and I really loved their setup. Granted, their park is nothing like Park City or anything, but they really do have a legit park. It seemed like they had features and jibs scattered all around and the stuff they had was pretty sick!
I liked it because it was enough park to keep me occupied for a few runs, but I could still hit the trees before and after my runs. I liked how the terrain was so varied and you could really do all kinds of skiing (trees, cliffs, pow, park) all within a run. You can't say that about most places, at least not places which have a respectable park.
But, that's the opinion from somebody who has only been there 2 days...it's probably better to listen to the locals.
lol I know that area its right underneath the Crest Chair lift. Me and a friend skiied that damn thing all day because it was untracked and just had soo much powder, however, ski patrol never stopped us. I just love how there's a rope and then when you past the rope is just a nice steep and powdery forest right infront of you...also, we were thinking about doing the cliff right underneath the chair but decided it would be a really sketch.
Yeah. If the weather is clear it will probably take about 15 minutes to get down little cottonwood and probably 20 or so to get up big cottonwood. Id say it will be around 40 minutes on a clear day...
Yeah that cliff is gnarly... We saw a couple of crazy people hit it when I was there in March. It was real sketchy though cause the snow wasn't that deep and they guy landed about 5 feet from the trees. But yeah, we also skied the trees under the crest express for a good portion of the day. If you drop into the forest right above thta big cliff, there is so mad untouched snow there. It was sick.
There's always a rope but it's never really officially closed...my suggestion is stick in the forest and don't ski the run out right underneath the lift. That way you aren't exposed to ski patrol if they are on the lift. And trust me it is some sick terrain I just wish it was longer but hey thats why there is the backcountry...
