"We added halfpipe to the schedule last year," said Emily Fisher, Freestyle Program Manager, "and it was a big success. There are a large number of athletes dropping into pipes all over the country, they have been competing regionally for years so it's only natural to add them to our US Championships."
"There's such a real catch-your-breath quality to what happens in the pipe," PJ Clark, Freestyle Director said.
The defending champions from the halfpipe on the opening day of the 2007 championships are X Games medalist Jen Hudak (Park City, UT), who grew up skiing just down the road at Okemo Mountain and was a moguls skier until about five years ago, and David Wise, from Alpine Meadows, CA.
Athletes must qualify to compete in halfpipe at US Championships. Qualification is based on the Freestyle Points list and with as little as 2 events athletes will achieve a ranking. Please check out the web site for full event criteria.
