I do two or three times a week during the ski season. I try to be careful about when I do squats and deadlifts though.

thanks for making this thread, i was goign to make one like this last week but didn't have the time.
so for you weight lifters, are there any special things i should be doing to make my skiing better. I know there are special workouts that help you with golf so i figure there should be a couple for skiing.

other than leg workouts, be strong upper body cause youll be able to take crashes alot better. and work on quick feet alot. It will help alot and quicker your feet up in tight spaces.
stretch a ton too.

You'd be surprised how much working out helps. Obviously leg workouts are important for skiing, but you should be doing a total body workout routine. It will seriously help. Here are some beginner tips if you are not a serious gym rat:
-Split up workouts by body part (e.g. leg day, chest/triceps day, back/shoulders/bicep day). Always rotate days, so that you give each muscle group at least 48 hours to heal.
-Do abs! There are many types of ab workouts and they will help you spin and tuck up for grabs, etc. You can do abs a few days week after your normal workout.
-Ease into it if you don't already workout.
-Drink a protein shake immediately afterward (this seriously matters), and eat more protein than you typically would.
-Use weight you can handle, and USE GOOD FORM!! Don't be that guy trying to bench 400lbs with his back 2 feet off of the bench jerking the weight around.
-Be sure to have a rest day or too each week.
Well, that's probably a starter guide...

Compound excercise will make you much stronger (and bigger, if that's what you want) than isolation exercise. For the most part, forget isolation excercises like leg extensions, concentration curls, and most excercises done by machine, and do big-boy compound excercises like squats, deadlifts, bench, pull ups, dips, and military presses. The latter will make you much stronger overall and for skiing in particular. They'll also give you a much more efficient work out. Of course, working out your core muscles (the muscles around your torso) is also important for skiing. Last, use perfect form and don't go too heavy too soon, especially for squats and deadlifts.

I lift about 5 times a week. I also am cautious of when I do leg workouts so it doesnt affect my skiing. I usually ski fri-sunday.
