Designing T- Shirts???

i want to start designing some t shirts and im not really sure what i need other then a shirt to make a legit one. i know you can just press stuff on them but i dont want to do that. i have a mac so is there any kind of program that lets me design them on the computer that isnt super expensive?

im actually doing this right now, ive got my designs done on photoshop, thats the easy part if your into GD. now i have to put em on the shirt, i bought some iron on blanks, but i dont know how well theyll go on, ill let you know
