k so everyones been wondering whats going to be going down for the new revelstoke resort on mt mackenzie. My dad's company he works for, Vic Van Isle, is building all of the condos and buildings at the new resort so he has all the plans for the condos and mountain. They have already ordered a gondola and it will start to be installed in the springtime of 07 and be up and running by the new season. This gondola will start alot earlier then i said previously in the other thread. When i looked over the plans today, the first gondola will start almost in town. It will start about 10 minutes out of town and continue all the way up to whats called "the wheather station" if youve ever been cat skiing at cat powder then you have most likely stopped here in the morning. From the wheather station there will be an upper village with condos, resteraunts and all that stuff. There will also be three heli pads there where the new Selkirk Tangliers will be located. The owners of the new mountain bought Selkirk Tangliers and the main location and where all the helicopters will launch from is the upper village of the new resort. From the upper village there will be several chairlifts branching off from there up to all the bowls/chutes and places where cat skiing usually occurs. these chairlifts will not be up or operational for next season but should be up in 2 years if all goes according to plan.
This is all true information, i looked at the plans myself no more then 3 hours ago. This will be a huge mountain and will exceed whistlers largest vertical drop in north america. Be prepared for pow, pow and more pow once this hill opens!

Do you happen to have access to information about jobs that may become available?
Im currently in the Ski Resort Operations course at Selkirk in Nelson and come next October I'll be out in a work placement. This place sounds like it will be extremely dope and will have many opportunities with the intense development.
Anything helps!
Thanks

Are you kidding me, this is not an untamed mountain side, and maybe if you didn't live in whistler you wouldn't be saying that. The houses they are building are basically in town and the mountain already has a small ski hill on it and has been gladed because of cat skiing. Eat a dick.

interesting.... if you have prints then I would trust yours. typical marketing hype....oh well, I was trying answer some questions my kid has.. I can determine from the pdf where the gondola is shown that is why I was asking you. you keep saying it is coming out of town.. can you determine how high up it goes?

it is supposed to be going up around 4000ft. it ends at a place called the wheather station where when you go cat skiing, all the cats stop and check wheather and do beacon training. it goes up pretty high since its basically from town level

Hey,
I know its been a while since you entered in here but some things seem to possibly be different. Just came back from the vancouver ski show and was talking to the guys. man, they are stoked. likea bunch of happy children, probably cause their houses are going to be worth a hell of a lot more now!
I was looking at the trail maps and photos. The gondola seems to go up from the more recent village and then you catch a chair up to the top. this chair is built and they said it will be the highest point they will develop. They plan on extending the gondola downwards towards the OLD village and doing some other work at the lower end of the moutain. All the new chairs from now on will be at the bottom, around the old double i think. This is good news that the hill is already accessing its best terrain and noone has to wait. Does that sound right to you?

Also going to throw it out there that i dont think revelstoke, or kicking horse for that matter9you could even throw Red into that list) are ever going to get really big. Well, at least not in the somewhat near future. The reason being, accessibility and international airports. The closest intl airport to Revy is Kelowna. Thats way too far, especially with Big White being so close to Kelowna. Kicking horse doesnt have one near either. Neither have a large population base nearby. Do you think people are going to drive 3 dangerous hours from calgary to KH when Lake Louise is right there? I don't.
I'm not saying I think these hills suck, because all three are arguably the best 3 in BC, and I will be skiing at all of them, and just bought a pass to KH even though i live 8 hours away, but I can't see them turning into these destinations that they are claiming.
thoughts?

of course he's not going to act worried. or he's so stoked on the skiing that he's choosing to overlook the logistics. It is not close to vancouver, it is not close to seattle, its too far from clagary, and kelwona is half decent, but there is a large resort right beside it.
Ski resorts don't flourish because of the skiing.

oh man, don't get me wrong. I would move there in a second. Hell I am sorta moving to kicking orse temporarily. It will probably be the best skiing in North america. I want it to succeed, and I am a optimistic person. I am not saying he is knowingly ingoring something. Maybe he is actually a skier at heart and believes people go for the skiing and not the "whole package" and he figures the will make the drive. Problem is so far, that hasnt been the case with resorts.
i hope it is successful, and i want to see lots of resorts, and smaller hills, but it seems people are jumping on the bandwagon to build resorts (i know some have taken decades to go ahead) whereever there is good skiing.
Really all that matters is there is another hill to ski at, a really good one at that
