Its not big. Its way smaller than all the blackberries out there now and is only a tiny bit bigger than the current 30gb ipod.

The one thing that will kill it in the business world is the lack of an ms exchange network. they better get on that.

Dude, chil! That's 5 hours battery of straight talking. Unless your cell phone convos are 6 and 7 hours long, than relax. If it has 16 hours of audio playback, and you don't use it all the time, i bet if you just left it sitting on, it would have prob 36 hours, cuz it will take almost no power at all to just chil and wait for a call or w/e it does when you aren't using it.

Can someone answer this question for me:

Why would you need to check your email on your phone? That's what computers are for. I can understand if it's for business and if that's you, good on you. But how many people who buy that phone actually need fucking internet on it?

After looking it over, that's a really bad deal for that phone considering how impractical it is. The only thing I use my phone for is talking on. Although it would be cool to have an iPod/phone. But the internet thing? Big fucking deal!

yes i could...this phone is designed to be apples competition against all of the smart phones out there that use pc software. its not for the average user like you and me (unless you have that kind of money to throw around on cool gadgets) but for the business stiff who needs to get that urgent message from his client the minute it is sent. so it isnt really a cell phone per say...its more targeted to fill a niche like blackberrys did

I don't think there's a chance, cisco wants that name they've had it for 7 years. Why would they move over just for apple?
If they do give it up they know apple wants this phone name really badly, so will drive a hard bargain.

There are already other companies that use the term "iphone" for POP mail.  Apple currently makes the only iphone that is actually a cellphone.  Even if they dont pay them to get the name, people will still call them iphones, no matter what.  This is just a PR stunt by Cisco (owns Linksys),  Apple is a smart ass company, they arent just going to bend over for Cisco.

You could and would want it if you're away from your e-mail. Given maybe people such as yourself don't use their phone for anything but talking, but that's all changing. More and more people are using e-mail as a serious method of communication because its fast and reliable, and much cheaper than phones. It also just means you know of it faster. It's the same reason Blackberry released the 'Pearl' (which the iPhone is going to crush). It's for the techy person who like's to stay in touch. Lastly, you'd be really surprised how large the business market is, that apple has partially targeted with the iPhone. Let's say you're a huge buisness person, and a big deal is going down that you need to know about. Somebody sends an e-mail to you, and it pops up on your phone because you happen to be out for lunch, or on vacation or something. With e-mail, you can respond asap. As for internet, if you watched the Keynote you'll see that it's full internet page compatible. What if you need to check stocks, or current business news? Or, as the example used in the Keynote, somebody calls you to ask if you want to see a movie, you happen to be in the mall shopping, so you don't have a computer handy... well what do you know? Your iPhone has internet. You then hop online and go to the theatre website to check the times (all while your call is still on hold) and once found, you simply tell your friend the time and which movie you're seeing. Although you may not see it, internet on the phone is a huge huge feature.

are you cereal? the treo is smaller than the iphone in length and width and is only surpassed by the iphone in depth.  get cereal.  and you can't justify the iphone being smaller when you compare it to the old blackberry.    only the immediate models from all phone companies should be compared with the new model from iphone, otherwise you're just comparing old technology to new.  and once again the new blackberry beats the iphone in length and width and is only surpassed in depth.  get serial.

everybody is just getting pipe dreams over this phone because it has the apple logo on it.  get over yourselves.  id laugh really hard if you spent 600 USD on a phone.  Put your money towards a cheap phone that you can still call people with.  Life isn't a popularity contest to see who can get the newest shit.  you're all in high school anyways so that way of thinking is still engrained in your mind.  wait till you have to start spending your own money and then justify buying it.

pff my cell phone right now is shitty, all it does is call and text and thats all i need it for. but i have an ipod too. I think its retarded that everybody at school has a fancy new phone with all these new gadgets, but theyre rich adn they also have 80gb ipods and nice digital cameras. wtf

I'll tell you what, for business people, that thing is pretty awesome.  and yes, it will work with exchange server.
For an 18 year old.. it's def a status/luxury item but a phone/ipod in one would be nice.

But for it's target market, the price is pretty comparable to its competitors - i think a treo is like 550 cdn with a 2 year contract on rogers.
To be able to travel, have it sync seamlessly with iTunes for podcasts and other media, look up addresses on google maps, take your family with you (pictures), have your contacts and not have to use a fucking stylus, learn how to use a sidewheel, or use a teeny keypad. Not have to worry about what a countries cell standards are. 
It's web browser rendering looks awesome too - ever try to surf on a blackberry??

I travel a lot.. i don't have a smartphone and as a result have to pull my laptop out quite a bit - find the right plug adapter, purchase internet minutes at the airport to use skype and check my emails.  And by No way am i a mac fanboy, but i've tried blackberries - they're ok.. treo is nice too, but this looks like what I'm looking for.  I'm just concerned with the touchscreen smearing on my ear.. and the battery life (being apple afterall).

are they unlocked on ebay yet?
