Poles, and cutting...how many times?

I have searched how to do it...just pit the handle in hot water, slide off, cut pole, slide grip back on.
Is cutting a pole too short dangerous, like, will the grip come off cuz of the taper? I want to cut my poles a but shorter. I got 46"poles, and the guy cut them down to a 42. I wanna go 40". Will there be any problems with doing this? They are scott catalyst poles if that means anything...

the handle will actually stick on better in most cases (im talking aluminum poles) they sometimes taper a bit, the width actually increase from the top of the pole to the center, making it easier to take off and on the handle. I cut a pair and put the handle back on, and was unable to to remove the handle again. (i didn't make them short enough)
But you don't need any adhesives when you put the grip back on just smack it back on good while it's still warm.
Using a pipe cutter, rather then a hacksaw will make the cutting edge smooth and easier to work with too.

pipe cutter is esential so that it only takes 5 minutes. they are poles. cut em and stick em. if u dont want them to come off, do it like they do in the DH biking world, use hairspray.

When I went to put the grips from my old poles onto new ones (just had to keep the bright orange), they were a little wider. I just wrapped duct tape around the top and then slid the handles on. You can always make it work!

I slid my grips off, cut my poles A TON, and then put the grip back on with no glue, and its super tight. And I added hand crocheted pole-straps.. :D
