now if i can only get my mom to believe that, because i don't think that skis will change much in the next two years. i think that skis will probably just get lighter, maybe. ski companies are pretty much following snowboard companies and we are about 2 years behind.
i saw that burton snowboard the weighs only like 5lbs at peter glenn the other day, and all i have to say is that shit is sick!

your an idiot. my dream everday ski is 150-120-145 in a 189cm. It would be mounted -4 from true center, it would have a flex pattern which would allow it to handle mellow angle pow lines and have a semi stiff tail to pop and also so that landing a little backseat of a cornice or cliff would put you back up on your feet. I would cream my pants if someone made this ski.

wide skis are the shit. i will never ski anything under 95 again period. for what i do theres no point to skinny skis. Even in the park 100 underfoot is the shit. minus the pipe.

and i ride park on a pair of moship's which are 98, i dont try and spin more than 5, but theyre the shit - so stable and smooth on landings.

and you can still carve the shit out of them.

i was just saying that going over 90 was ridiculous, it's like their trying to make the sport easier. just my personal opinion.

i can ski on anyhting, but why the fuck would i want to? if someone makes a ski that makes some aspect of the sport more fun. I will use that ski, and have more fun than you.

you are either from the east coast or a park rat, if youre saying this. hell kids on the park ski on bigger than 90, and some people on the east coast have fat skis.

get on some fat skis, you'll realize quickly

this is a joke right? You live in vail and are arguing against powder skis? Don't knock what you havent tried.  Try skiing a pow day on 80's and then switch to a powder ski in the afternoon. If you can honestly still say a ski doesnt need to be bigger than 80 then theres no hope for you. But im assuming this is all one big joke so its ok.
And on your second point, it obviously will.  Look at a timeline for the last 10 years of twin tip construction and you'll notice all the innovation. And each year it isnt slowing down.  Skis are getting lighter, butter points are being perfected, tons of flexes are being tested, new edges, cores, and topheets come out each year, kids are expierementing with mount points, true center and core center,  and companies are even changing sidecut from sherical to eleptical.  I dont see improvements ending anytime soon. Especialy not within the next two years.

if i was just doing backcountry then fuck yea!
but i'm doing everything: park, corduroy, moguls, backcountry.
so to me 85 seems about right.

ow noone can predict the future but me i say that someone is gunna make a 300 cm ski that is 200 underfoot and have a combined wieght of  17.129621 lbs. (including bindings)

you guys are talking about width, and yea that is changing. but you also have to check out the edge strength. atomic and dynastar are probing into new areas with double edges, and hardened grinding areas. Not only that, but atomic is puting nanotechnology into its skis, which puts more material into smaller areas in the ski, making for lighter and stiffer skis.

Actually most ski manufacturer's thought that cap construction would be good cause snowboards were made that when then the snowboard companies realized sidewall was more durable and just better all around twintips started to get made that way. Professional race skis have been sidewall construction for many years. All new technology is mostly fads because ski magazines wont test a ski that is the exact same as the last year no matter how good it is unless it has had a change done to it. And yes skis are getting lighter

I have 95s and 83s and i love both (for different things of course), but if you think over 90 is redic then youre just retarded. Maybe try skiing some powder (more than 3cms deep) and tell me that 80mm waist skis are better than 100.

To say that anything over 90 is ridiculous is...... ridiculous.Fat ski/powder ski technology has progressed the sport sooooooo much in the last few years, nobody is going to stomp a 60' 5 into tittie deep powder on some 203 volkl p20's its not going to happen.The things you can ski and the speed you can ski them with a ski like the Seths, or Ants are crazy, your a complete FOOL if you hate on fat skis. I didnt want to bring up the gay pic in your profile but lets just say its not helping.

ok, ok, enough ripping on people because they dont need fat skis. I personally dont need fat skis cause im an east coast kid. Everything is ice or groomed with the occasional 6inch day. Personally I think the magnetraction stuff from libtech is pretty progressive. I def want to try those and they look reall sweet.

probley, cause theres so much progresion in this sport, so the equipment is always gonna change, there changing now too, cause each year pros are making new skis, that change or making skiing easyer or harder for things, or watever, ski tech is always changing.

technology probably won't change when it comes to twins.

as a whole there really hasn't been much change in technology in the past 5 years. core materials are the same (wood, microcell foam, fiberglass) and construction is the same (sidewall, cap). now i think you'll see companies playing around with shape but that's mainly it.

the big technology is in the high-end carving skis but even then it really hasn't changed that much in 5 years. if you want to look at major changes look at boots! more companies using polyether rather than polyurathane making the boot less reactive to temperature, more models emerging with a built-in booster strap, new heel-hold design from salomon in the falcon/gun boot, lighter weight materials for freeride boots, shock absorbing bootboards, inverted buckles, etc... the ski boot is where you're going to see more technological changes than probably anywhere else in the industry. well, hopefully someone figures out how to make snow above 0/32degrees
