DNAcustom, a level pack for everyone

I made it easy on you guys. Right click, select save target as, and download it. Extract it and run it by clicking the OPEN_THIS.html file. The levels are as follows.

Giant QP hit
Huge kicker
Huge Table - By skeeordye
Nice bug air/stepdown jump.

All these are are made by me, with the exeption of the table level and the qp hit, which was origionally quazbotch's level and I modified it.

Also, thanks to quaz for making all this possible, he really started it all.

So without any more delay...

ahhh! i got it to work... kind of... i got it to the page that says 'DNA Custom - By Cruz' and then has all the levels below the title but now when i click on the levels it says that this page cannot be displayed, what the hell!

yo to change skis all u gotta do is open the index files with notepad and change ski 3 to ski 1, its not that hard, Like i said in other post, we ned like a pearl programmed menu selection screen so we can have variables and when u click enter, it generates the html, since so many guys cant work it. . . j/k, just read the readme file

PLEASE, If you are going to make levels, watch your poly count. Do them in the lightwave modeler, Cause if you do it in the main program they turn out HORRIBLE. Really slow.

Here, look at a good level, then look at a bad level.

so in the 'howstuffworks' file, i change the ski and jumper index numbers and save that (in notepad). now what else do i have to do to see changes in the game?

no, you make those changes in the index.html file or 01.html or whatever file you use to play DNAspin.

Ok, I am putting all the origional levels in for the next 'version' there will be a total of 10 levels total. If you have anything you want to be in, send it to me via email (cruZ@newschoolers.com) or post it on the web. You may just see your levels in the game.

Maybe have a snow loop (like in propaganda) at the end of a run so have to keep your speed up to do it. A hip would be cool too. I dunno, just throwing out ideas. Keep up the good work!

Is there some way to remap the controls to fit a joystick? Like 'Fire' instead of spacebar and twist it instead of arrow keys? Just something for someone more enabled than i to work on.

Its on Kazaa, search for either Newschoolskier (my SN) or DNA custom level maker.

A snow loop would be inpossible due to the limitations of the level modeling system. Remember, while the skier may be 3D, the background is not, whoch make it hard to do some really creative stuff.

heres some more ideas cRUZ

bc style kicker, step up, large distance step
down (take off flat but large drop and distance), taller QP, jumps with more flat transition time befo the kick so your body dosent get all fucked up, follow on the inrun so you can go switch if you want to and you can see it (like the table level), dont wory about complex backgrounds (they make it slower)...good job tho...

By the way, anyone who is really good at photoshop, If you want to make better backgrounds go ahead, I kinda suck a lot.

cruZ, how big a level have you made? I can't get anything bigger then 6000x3000 pixels to load up properly. I saw something 5000 wide.

Did you find a way around the 3 jump limit?

the table top level is super big, there is a large follow but it goes REALY slow on my computer...

Thats cause he didnt make it right, there is an extremely high poly count in his table.

I am right now up tp about 6500, but the picture is getting upwards of 10 meg, so it wastes a LOT of memory. Its better just to size down the level.

10 megs? You can compress it much more then that. My 6000x300 image is about 300kb. Assuming you used photoshop, tick off 'basline (optimised)' when you save the file, and set the quality to 0. Its all you need for plain backgrounds.

my error was that i didnt extract DNACUSTOM
i extracted OPEN_THIS make sure u extract DNACUSTOM and then go where u extracted it and play it!

alright, the reason the levels go so slow is because of the image size, not the polly count. the image is 6500xsomethn huge, the model is flat, and is nothing. i took out the entire level except the guy just to see if u were right, it still went slow. any game you play, half-life, a driving game has hundreds of thousands of polys including sccenery and shit. its not the poly count. the only thing you can do to make it faster is make the window smaller so it doesn't show as much of the extremely large image.

now that thats cleared up ive been workn a lot, ill make some more levels taking into consideration the ideas. i made a quick switch level, and im planning on making an arial jump.
