no i'm not talking about southpark, i'm talking about the coolest thing you can do on skis. i just started doing butters at the end of the year after i saw a few in the movies and on this site. i've got the tail butter down even though it probably still looks ugly and i've landed a few nose butters but way in the back seat. does anyone else share my fascination with butters and have some new footie? they seriously kick ass and look so smooth when done right.

i can do switch butta 3's but they're getting kinda boring and for some reason i cant seem to get it to five
i really wanna learn to switch butta 270 onto a rail, but that's just gnarly

I think that buttering is the future of skiing.

However, it makes me angry to see so many skiers doing fake butters and getting credit for it.

If you slide a 180 on the snow before you hit a rail, it's not a butter.

There has to be pressing involved...

so are we now calling tail butters switch butters? i think we should come up with a different name for nose butters too since our skis don't have noses. maybe tip butter or i can't believe it's not butter 3,5,7, ect.

I would love to see vids of all these people who do butters becasue they are the ones telling all the kids on here who are almost pro that they are doing them wrong. Doing them all off your knee high jump with a 10 ft gap doesn't count

watch afterbang. one dudes seg is like all butters, he butters everything, bc jumps, rails, park jumps. he does a triple butter to cork 7 too! then he does a 1080 of like an 8 foot jump. its the greatest movie ever. the extra segments o the dvd are amazingly amazin and funny. but yea i think butters off jumps on skis is pretty flamming. snowboarders make it look so much better.

afterbang is a kick ass movie. i still think you can make it look better on skis though. it's just so much harder than on a snowboard i'd think.

its easier on a board, only 1 edge can catch and you have direct weight and percise control of the board. one of the reasons snowboarding has so much variation is because the entire board is a part of your body and you can manipulate it anyway possible. like in spins, and rails. a snowboarder can do the same spin like 100032 different ways and u will never get bored of it.

mdfresh is right. tons of kids revert three feet from the lip of the jump and they call it a butter. tanner does TRUE butters, check out his switch butter five in happydayz off that there cliff if your unsure what a butter is.

i have to disagree with tanners butter in happy dayz it was real smooth but the drop was small, i couldnt do it though, im just saying ive seen better

The Definitive Butter Manual

1.you normally spin 360s on the flat ground by sliding around for fun. this is like this but instead of rotating around your boots, make the center of your rotation either near the tips or tails of your skis. (this technique is most commonly used on rollers by moving to 90 degrees and sliding on your tips/tails and ollieing back to a smooth landing)

2. jumping quick 180s or switch 180s before a jump or rail, preferrably while going up the lip of the jump/ramp (see the snowboard movie Afterbang for many fine examples of butters)

\/ \/ \/ switch butter 360 \/ \/ \/

3. a. while going switch carve really sharply so you are 90 degrees from going backwards(where you started) (you should be facing skiers left/right perpendicular to the mountain.
3. b. now lean backwards while keeping your skis parallel so you all your weight on the ends of your tails. (by the end of this step you should be facing almost forward at about 120 degrees from your start)
3. c. now ollie as big as you can off your tails and spin until you are facing backwards again (240 degrees)

3. x. to see a fine example of a switch butter 3 watch mikael d's segment in Royaly, Eric Iberg's 2001 film

and there you have it, the vast expands of buttering on skis. with this handy butter manual (which i suggest printing and keeping in your pocket, ready to be whipped out and studied on the chairlift) hopefully you will be wallowing in your very own churning butter vat!

if you are interested in butters i suggest the dynastar trouble makers, which are specifically designed to be able to enhance butters to the third degree of butternessly.

nah dude. if you're gonna butter it shouldn't be more than 90 degrees. a full 180 before you take off is more like a revert.

ur all wrong, you lean back on your tails BEFORE you start spinning, it sends ur momentum into the spin, using the slingshot effect, you dont just lean back and rotate, you push off ur tails like your winding up for a major ollie. Watch Mikeal in this year's movies. You will see.
