i was gonna post this in the surfers cult but i figured i'd get a better response here. for the past two years i've had many bodyboarding sessions cut short die to cramps/charlie horses in my hamstrings, calves, and groin. it mostly occurse in the winter when the water's colder and i could see that, but it even has happened today and other days when the waters not too cold. i always stretch before i go out, and drink lots of water before and throughout the day. is there any other way i can prevent these from happening? i've already been caught in 1-2 foot overhead with a cramp in my hammy, and i though i was gonna drown and never make it back to the beach. i don't plan on doing that next fall/winter
Eat and be full of energy before going out. Avoid stretching in the water( mostly when tired) and spend about an hour for each session.
Its ot the best advice, but its what works for me because my foot always get cramped up.
so swim laps at the local pool. its kinda like running the more you run, eventaully you'll stop cramping. i was aquajogging once and there are underwater speakers and both my legs cramped at the same time right when i got into the deep end and i started sinking and the song playing so terrible and i told myself i can't drown to such shitty music and then i swam up to the surface as best i could.
yeah I get them in my hamstring and the arches of my feet after a long time swimming in coller water. Been told the best way to avoid a charlie horse is eating alot of potassium rich foods. Other then that I dont know how to avoid them
yea well i stretch at home first, and then it's about a 15 minute ride to the beach so i run a little and stretch there, and i've tried pedialyte a few times before going out but i still usually get it. i'm going for a physical soon so i'll ask the doc if i can do anything else
