Yeah, any head shop, and you have to be of legal smoking age to buy one. But chances are that most head shops wont care how old you are unless you really look young.

Hookas...ahh. Lots of fun, awesome during parties and just plain fun. You have to be 18 to buy one in the US because it is tabacco. Actually, you could probably buy a hookah with no problems, but getting the Tabacco would be the hard part.


We have one here at a house my friends and I are renting. The tabacco you can use is usually flavored (we like strawberry and mint the best, our recent try at mango has been met with disgust). You need hookah coals as well (get the type with a golden package, you never want the awful self lighting ones). We dont have a filter, but I've heard that you can get one. However, we havent been able to find one locally, and most hookah bars didnt use them. Lots of weird shit can collect in the hookah, make sure you wash yours out every time, including the hose. But yeah, hookah's are a lot of fun.

I dont know if cigarrettes are worse, but I would imagine they are (lots more chemicals). Still, hookah is smoking, so buyer beware, there are certian health risks.

Hookah tobacco is far worse than ciggarette tobacco, so be aware of that. And I've never heard of any place to rent one. I'd rather just pitch the 90$ or so for a really good one and just use that all the time. I'm gonna get one this summer I think.

i got one in egypt in january, and i got self lighting coal with it - good times until i ran out (used 1/2 of it in 1 night) anyway, went down to the egyptian bazzar in town & got some non self lighting charcoal - it simply didnt light, even when i left it on a gas stove for a solid 10 minutes, it never got hot (brand was al-alali).
i also tried coals out of the fire buth they tasted rank.
any suggestions?

You won't be able to get one if you're under 18 unless you're really lucky, but I'm sure you have some buddies who are that age, or a fake ID... it's worth it, anyway.

Smoking a hookah is not like smoking cigarettes at all because the tobacco is heated to produce smoke rather than directly burning. This, coupled with the water pipe element, makes the smoke really smooth if you keep it cleaned out nicely. If you don't keep it clean, though, it will taste like shit.

As for health, I have heard that smoking a hookah has more tar and less nicotine than smoking that same amount of cigarette smoke, but the chemicals used in the self-lighting coals are very sketchy and they smell/taste like complete shit. Expect to get alzheimer's from those things if you smoke them a lot all your life... that's why I'm trying to experiment with natural charcoal in mine. Also, if you smoke for hours, then you will be smoking much more than a cigarette's worth, so you will probably get way more tar and nicotine than you would from a single cig.

I smoke mine maybe like once a week... it's sick to just light it up during a movie, or bring it out if you throw parties. It's also the best kind of smoke for learning to blow smoke rings, etc.

Also, when you have your own place, you should be able to smoke it inside without making the room smell like shit. The smoke is so different from regular tobacco smoke that it doesn't linger at all.

hey kid. i see you're 16 and from vermont, which means you can't buy a hookah, buy shisha, or buy any accessories for a hookah. or rent a hookah to smoke at dobra. you can try buying one at a local headshop- you don't need a major city there's probably a headshop in every town with a population over 10,000. if you have no luck come up to liquid glass in lyndonville vermont. we don't card everyone. so if you're relatively chill, a lot of places like liquid, good times gallery, and the emporium won't even ask if you're 18. if none of that pans out you must have an of age friend who can buy you one.

OR you can buy my handmade eqyptian one hose rotation shisha hookah. it's glorious

^^ no one cares, and im sixteen. i bought mine and didnt get carded and whenever i go to guy shisha or coals they dont card anywhere i go, no one really cares about that around here... when we go into nyc too they dont card us at hookah bars either, and most dont card for alcohol either, bc nyc is sweet like that.

what are you even trying to say, that because you can buy underage that no one in the world cards and it's really not a big deal? actually you silly fucker i work in a headshop and everyone does care it's people like you who ruin our ability to let relatively chill people go uncarded. because when people say "oh this shop doesn't card and yeah i'm the best and i can buy shit underage i'm the man my balls are hairless and the size of marbles" that travels around we get BUSTED and SHUT DOWN. and no more heady hookahs and glass for you stoners! all i'm saying is you really shouldn't try to buy underage if you don't have to i mean, if you're sixteen you probably have some friends who are 18 right? older siblings? cousins? local hobos looking for 5$? and if you do go into a shop and don't get carded, don't call all your little friends and tell them to do the same because that's not really how it works. it's personal judgement and when a person doesn't card they are at risk to get into a lot of trouble.

yeah... i guess that pretty hypocritical- passing along the word to others to me is cool and a nice thing to do- but then do be an ungrateful bitch about it and say "no one cares" is pretty punkass. anyone who's bought something underage without being carded should be on their knees sucking the penis of whoever helped them out because it's a pretty big risk.

My friend Antoine and I could be considered hookah aficionados. Basically hookah sesh every weekend. So epic. Anyways we smoke argili's (arabic version) usually with double apple flavoring. So chill. Anyways, the age is 18, becuase it's tobacco. And illegal to own one? Are you joking?
