World Record Cliff Drops

This might be my complete and total ignorance towards the big mountain scene since I rarely get to ski it. But is a world record cliff drop THAT impressive. To me it doens't look like it takes skill looks like it just takes a ton of balls. I mean from waht I can see they fall 200 ft with dins at 14 land on their backs and just stand up and ski away. Doesn't seem that great, but please tell me if I am wrong here because I really don't know.

true there are people on both sides of this arguement that will not budge on their oppinions. but that was a good post teenage_zero. i will now call you teenage_hero. i agree that both take skill and balls.

talk all the shit you want, but Jamie Pierre landing on his head may have saved his life. His head has less surface area than the bottoms of his skis.

Big mountain (not just huge cliffs) takes more skill
and balls than park. When was the last time you got cliffed out in the park? Big mountain is all about scoping your line and finding the perfect conditions to go big. In park skiing, the features are consistent and you always know how good your landing is.

his head saving his life?  um, you want surface area.  just why you ski big skis in powder.  you sink down with less surface area.  if he hadn't had what 10 feet of soft snow and a considerable base under that, he would have been hurt, or seriously injured.  He waited for the perfect conditions to hit it.  The snow saved his life.

Well sure dropping cliffs is a lot of balls, but then again you couldn't say Seth Morrison's stomped backflips of his first hit or an 80 ft cliff is easy.

Takes big balls, and total skill to keep your chin down and your body upright and hands forward. and then gaging the landing and timing to take the big hit. I ve got alot of respect for it.

julian car front flipped a 210 ft cliff. i thought that was pretty sweet. and it might not take much skill to drop a cliff like that...i personally think it does...but going on the fact that it doesnt. even jamie pierre who some call a shitty skier skis pretty fucking well. julian car can rip both your nuts off...while skiing.

havin balls is what every sport is about i mean, if i wasnt afraid to fall hard as shit on a skateboard and just commited to olly'ing a 20 stair i woudl totaly be able to get it after falling probaly 3-20 times. The actual trick is the only thing that takes skill, being able to throw your body into a d-spin or something like that but 90% of it is just in your head and you just have to learn to commit.
and if you dont try anything that you are afraid to do you are never gonna progress

anything above 150 is crazy. its all balls dude. the skill you develop doesn't take that much time to develop. its just nuts to drop cliffs like that. all nuts.

Park is safer, its controlled.

BC is not as safe, not controlled.

Skill for cliff is mostly courage.

Yea dude on huge cliff drops like that you want less surface area. can you imagine what could have happened if he landed right on his skis with prophet 130s on or something? He probably would have straight taken his face out with his knees plus broken his back. For huge drops like that, you want to maximize the cusion the snow gives you, and sink, not stay on top.

`yea u also gotta be able to ski out of those because when you drop you pick up a ton of speed, so unless you land in a pillow or on flat, your gonna hafta ski away from it

on smaller drops, yes landing on fat skis is better. but at 245 feet, hes going to hit the snow at like 200 miles per hour. he wants to go as deep as possible so as to have more time and distance to slow down and minimize the force on his body. landing headfirst let him go deep.

The snow absolutley saved his life, no doubt. I skied at targhee the day before he dropped that cliff, and it was hands down the best powder I have ever skiied.
