ok, so my baseball team had a turny yesterday..and our ump was a former ump who umped in the pros..so he says that im a hell of a ball player and that if i had tryed out for the majors that day all of my stats would be to every manager in mlb by 3:00 the next day......so i really want to ski and progress and trun pro like so many other people, but i think i have a really good chance at becoming pro and making a bigilion dollars a year....my friend zackd he said do every thing so i will

well baseball ends before ski season starts for the most part, plus you could play for a few years, retire a millionare, then ski you ass off.

well my parents wont let me quit my comp team and we have to practice in the winter at 5 in the morning..and ive thought about playing pro baseball for like 2 years and have a bigillion dollars then ski

alright dude, the team I am on now is #1 in the nation, we just won the NABF national championship so everyone on my team is like yea we're going pro. The reality is many of us will make it to the minors and make 20,000 a year and have a bus ticket, but the chances of any of us going pro is slim. But if thats what you want don't give up on a dream because a bunch of peopl eon a ski forum tell you to

well you gotta realize that it would be at least 5 years before you are makin a 7 figure salary. but at the same time the league minimum for AAA is 90g's a year. and for the bigs it's 300,000. so even if you just make it in you're gonna be makin good cash.

i'm kinda in the same situation. i'm goin into my senior year of high school and i have scholarship opprotunities on the table. i really don't want to fuck anything up during this years ski season.

Also it'll say in your contract that you won't be able to ski, to high risk

school is the only way to succeed. stop sports, even if you turn pro (i don't believe in it), you 'll be a rich asshole, but still an asshole.
get educated, so that you won't be an asshole.

your only 13, do BOTH... you dont know if your gunna be a pro ball player when your 13 trust me. i have 4 real good friends who will be drafted in the 2007 MLB draft and their is a very slim chance either will make it to the big leagues.. When i was 13 i batted like .650 and was the best fielder on my team, i dont even play baseball any more(we were the best team in NJ)... you need to do both, to much can happen from now until ur out of your senior year of high school

do baseball over quitting for skiing. like most people on this site, you will most likley never go pro at skiing, and if you are that good at 13 that a former mlb ump said you were really good you should pursue it. you should really try in school because even if you get drafted by a team you could never make it to the majors. my cousin got drafted 3 years ago and is in the braves system. i think he got lucky because the braves use alot of their young players and they make great players so my cousin could be good, but he may end up a career minor leaguer. still being in the minor leagues might leave you better off than quitting and pursueing professional skiing

I just think that there are a lot of people that play baseball and want to make it in the pros and there is a lot of competition, but there arent that many skiers that are good enough to go pro so you have a better shot skiing

i play pitcher and catcher, and i think throwing 70 is pretty good at 13, so ill stick to baseball and progress in skiing and see wat happens.....and im already getting good grades in skool, i have only ever gotten 1 c in my life, the rest a's and b's

hahahahaha you're 13. Everyone doeswell in baseball when they're 13. Wow an ump said you were good. The chances of making the majors are like 1000000000 to 1. Comeback with this question in 4 years or so and then maybe we'll see. I'd be willing to bet once you make it to the varsity or even JV level your whole perspective on turning pro will change as you mature and realize that it is near impossible to turn pro.

WTF? you're 13 years old! how the fuck do you think you're going to try out for a major league team? just because a part time little league umpire went and talked to your parents? i've been playing baseball for 15 years and trust me, i know how shit works. many umpires, coaches, and other parents have told me that i am a very talented baseball player... but i wouldn't just randomly show up at spring training for an MLB team and expect to play! there is an infinite amount of politics behind baseball in every level, even in your league. there have been scouts, agents, and college recruiters at nearly every one of my games since i was about 15 years old (not specifically for me, i just mean that's what they do). i've been talked to by many of them, but the thing that you have to realize is that it's a HUGE process. there's no such thing as overnight MLB superstars. there's a process for everybody.

i'm not trying to shoot you down or anything, but just trying to make you realize that you really can't get your hopes up or start thinking about a gigantic career decision like that at your age. if you're into sports, go ski.. snowboard even. play basketball.. play football.. try anything that you are even remotely interested in and get god at more than one thing. most professional athletes were multi-sport athletes in high school and college and even way younger than that. don't have such tunnel vision and be focused on becoming a pro in a sport. like someone said earlier, it's better to be poor and smart.

okay, he was a former MLB umpire.. but he's still a part time little league umpire if he is calling a 13 year old baseball game.

the entire point of my post was to tell you that you are wrong in assuming that you can just go try out for a minor or major league team. even though it happens sometimes, most scouts don't draft players right out of high school. most are from colleges who want you to play for their school. minor and mojor leage scouts then usually draft from college teams. like i said it's a rediculous process with tons of politics.
