no, i was just seriously frustrated that llama was twisting my words around and not even trying to be reasonable about what I wrote, so I got mad and decided I was sick of arguing a discussion noone really knows enough about(even me).
A fact that does still stand is that, when everyone logs off and is done arguing, marijuana legislation hasn't been effected and everything is the same, so I really don't care what is said. I'm just trying to make some more people have open minds towards marijuana in case one day they because a house member in the committee of alcohol and drugs.

I personally think this is a non-issue. Weed is unhealthy for you, but if you want to smoke it, that’s your prerogative. The side affects are relatively mild compared to other substances but it’s still unhealthy. It can burn away the natural hairs in your lungs (depending how you smoke it) and, as a result, you can loose some of the air filtration in your lungs. Consequently, dirt and other toxins in the air can pass deep into your repertory system more easily. Notwithstanding, alcohol is also bad for you. It kills helpful bacteria in your system and hurts your liver. I always remember this however: People don’t always drink (alcohol) to get drunk, but people always smoke (weed) to get high.

marijuana is not where close to as lethal as alcohol. you could never smoke to much weed that it would kill you. the worst thing you can do from weed is green out, where your body shuts down for a couple hours because your nervous system goes heywire. if you are chronically dependant then long term use can mentally fuck with you. unlike acid, shrooms, ecstasy or coke where long term use can lead to paranoid scitzofrenia (sp) and a whole wack of major psychological problems, we can lower your selfesteem and make you highly unmotivated. its been proven to really slow down you reaction speed and such when smoked regularly. alot of kids with ADD and hyperactive disorders find weed to be calming. actually asome psychiatrists and doctors say smoking weed for adult patients with ADD can help them lead normal lives with out getting sidetracked and jittery. the last thing about ganja is its not addictive. some say it is mentally addictive but that has yuet to be proven. regualr users find it to become a habit and a daily routine which can be hard to break which sometimes labels bud as addictive.

marijuana all in all is not dangerous. to much of anything is bad, so i guess that goes counts for bud too, but yeah its the safest shit this side of vitamin C.

I've never claimed to be smarter than you, nor have I claimed to know a great deal about marijuana. However, I do know that people who smoke marijuana still get cancer. Well, if people who smoke it still get cancer (NOT FROM THE WEED ITSELF) then it's obviously not helping, thus condemning the possibility that it could help treat the actual cancer, which appeared to be one of you points much earlier in the thread.

If you research this topic so much, please provide me with some sources that justify your point. What is your point btw? That we don't know enough about marijuana? There is a SHIT TON of research out there related to the effects marijuana has on people both in a recreational and medicinal contexts.

Though the US government may be hell bent on defying medicinal marijuana research, that does not mean we don't know enough to come to some basic conclusions.

Why am I so interested? I want to be a doctor someday and know what I'm doing if I perscribe marijuana to someone.
My access to marijuana info is really limited at this point, so all the websites, books I've seen have been america, some foreign, but they all don't give conclusive answers about marijuana, there all just vague and unsure. For example the top link, they say your brain has canaboid receptors that react to marijuana, but they don't even know why those receptors are there in the first place.

The 21st amendment illegalized the transportation or importation into any state, territory, or possession of liquors. This, however, was not stopped by the illegalization. It created speakeasies and many underground ways to get it anyway. It also created crime, some death, some low grade materials, and many other things... however it didn’t create a stop for drinkers. This prohibition was eventually canceled due to the United States realizing that it simply wasn’t working and that legalization would lead to an amount of money being made for them off taxes. Does this sound familiar enough?... Minus the legalization at least.

Marijuana is simply the most unlawful thing to spend money on. Nearly 2 billion dollars a year is spent of tax money to keep people in prison for small to medium marijuana busts. Nearly 4 billion dollars is spent on keeping marijuana illegal and arresting those who use it.... This price is more than the U.S. spends to help those who are addicted to other drugs. Marijuana may always get you high, but alcohol also always gets you drunk, whether you see it or not. Weed smokers may not always get as high as they would if they smoked 4 joints to their face... but alcoholics are slowed down, even if they have one beer. Driving after drinking is the same thing as driving after smoking, whether you believe it or not. The more you smoke, the more “impaired� you get...The more you drink, the more “impaired� you get.

Francis Young, DEA Law Administrative Judge, said that “A smoker would theoretically have to consume nearly fifteen hundred pounds of marijuana within about 15 minutes to induce a lethal response... In strict medical terms, marijuana is far safer than many of the foods we commonly consume. For example, eating ten raw potatoes can result in a toxic response. By comparison, it is physically impossible to eat enough marijuana to induce death." How can a drug that is physically impossible to overdose on, be dangerous? Marijuana also has been proven, or at least never been proven to give lung cancer to people. It has been proven to create SOME lung damage and immune problems for those who smoke heavily, however.. it has never created cancer in the body. Cigarette smoking causes 87 percent of lung cancer deaths and is responsible for most cancers of the larynx (voice box), oral cavity(mouth), pharynx(throat), esophagus, and bladder. So, 13% is not from cigarette smoking, and 0% is proven to be from marijuana smoking. To keep this “drug� illegal is ludicrous. Not to mention, marijuana was illegalized in 1937 under reasons of “insanity�, which has been proven totally incorrect and was also illegalized under a totally race related issue.

The reason they criminalized it was because after the good ole 21st ammendment, to appease the hardcore temperence people, the government compromised and said "well, we'll repeal prohibition if it will make you bitches happy, but we'll make weed illegal."

Like other posts have said, there are more reasons than just this. Weed was not a working class white man's vice of choice, alcohol was.

The other reason weed remains illegal in this country is because so many people have tried it. You would think that would mean there would be more support for legalization, but if you just try it once or twice, the effects are so strong a lot of Americans are like "shit that stuff fucked me up hardcore in college, it def should not be legal." If you use it regularly you get used to it, and it becomes easy to do whatever you're doing, whether it be school, driving, work, or socializing, while blazed.
