SSX On Tour...the truth

Allright all you little monkeys...here is the stright dope on SSX on tour.
The producers of the game have actually been on this site and read a bunch of reviews, and have brought Anthony Boronowski into their office in BC and he is working with the animators to make everything look better. They have taken the Kosak out of the game as well as the daffy, and they are currently replacing all those weak grabs with steezed out ones courtesy of Ant. These guys honestly do care and are working hard to make the game right for you. The only other news I have is that new screen shots with the new grabs will be out soon, and that the game will be available before x-mas next year. Also Ninthward does not have their own game coming out. Ninthward, Line, K2, Armada, 4frnt and Dynastar all donated ski graphics to the game, and that is the only way ninthward is invovled, along with the rest of us.

dude... no old school wont matter, the point of SSX tricky being gay is that it is so impossible and unrealistic, i want amped 2 for skiing.... untill i see that you cant do over what pros can do now then i am not buying it, there is no point...

I can see everyone's opinions. Won't it be nice to actually play a new skiing game? I'll at least rent it and try it out. If I get too bored during the off-season I might even venture out to buy it. Even if it's lame (as it may well be) I'll still play it, and so will 85 percent of the people on this site. In due time, the creators of Amped will jump on board. Let things take their course.
In the meanwhile, let these people do their job with some constructive suggestions from the people on this site. Remember, if they didn't post anything here you would still be playing JMMT...

Everyone on here says "Oooh SSX is going to give skiing such a bad image..." But think about it for a second, with over 3 million sales to Amps 1/2 million sales, SSX has done nothing detrimental to snowboarding's image. And by that rational its not going to do anything to hurt skiing's image either.

The intrest is in the numbers. The broad market likes SSX more than they like amped, and the bottom line is, no mater how un-realistic the game is, it excites people about the sport, and it might motivate them to go out to a hill and try the sport themselfs.

Even if only 2% of the 3 million copies sold translate to someone trying the sport for the first time, we're dealing with 60,000 people. (this isn't even taking into consideration that realisticly a game's reach is probably 3 times the total sales when you factor in multiple people playing a single copy.)

60,000+ is a good number considering that there were just under 35,000 pair of twin-tips skis sold durring the 03/04 season.

I just spoke with Anthony Boronowski this afternoon. He met with EA in the morning, and said things look good. They were working on things like body positioning, rotations, grabs, tweaks, etc.

SSX is an Arcade game, not a simulation. As Novatony mentioned, there are a large number of companies working with EA on this game, to make it the best it can be within the confines of the Arcade style. Its what sells, and EA knows this and so do the companies that are involved.

I think things are going to be very different from what everyone saw in the first teaser.

Well if they have Anthony working with them heres how I see it, I am sure that they will make really stylie grabs and make levels with nice BC booters and cliffs, as WELL as the other "arcade" style levels for the people that play it to get the "high score." I could be wrong, but I don't think Anthony will let us down.

Are you guys serious? 2 years ago we were all creaming our pants our Ski Stunt Simulator.

2 Years later we've finally hit the mainstream market and you all are complaining? I am just shocked that we finally get an opportunity to have a game with skiing in it, that is actually playable and we are all wanting more.

I dont know what you guys would prefer? Hypothetically they create an Amped 2 for skiing. O.k. it's going to sell 50,000 copies tops. Very few kids who have not skied before are going to spend 50$ on something that is in the snow sports genre that isn't snowboarding and isn't arcade style. Amped 2 only sold 500,000 copies compared to SSX's 3 million. It's a number game, and the fact that EA Sports one of the leading sports gaming manufacturer's in the world has taken input from a freestyle skier is great. This could be the biggest boost in freeski sales in history since it's existance. And so what if some kids don't like it, they're not going to be skiing anyway even if the game didn't come out, and just like how no one on this site will stop skiing because of it. This is the greatest feat we have accomplished in our short term as a sport. This could be a new rise and we could breakout, and become really really popular. And I understand that some people don't want to go mainstream like snowboarding did, but we have to go somewhere, and this is the progression of the sport, take it or leave it.

Listen to Jibtech and Novotny guys. Besides, that is why people are helping out with this, to MAKE it cool. I have spoken with EA and I am confident others have too, about the image they first portrayed with the initial pictures and game teaser.
They have also been working with Mike Douglas and are commited to giving this a cool flavor.

Novotny is also right in saying this is a big step and we can work to do it proper. Have some faith and realize things are happening that you are not seeing right now. I think this can be sick:)

to get freestyle out there for people to see. ssx came out before amped. since ssx was so popular other game design companies wanted to make a boarding game, but more realistic. the ski companies are probably hoping the same thing will happen. it may take a few years, but it'll help us get a good game quicker than if there was no ssx skiing game at all. that would be my guess.

for sure. you cant tell the future so stop worrying about it, just chill out and wait. maybe some ppl will think freeskiing is all about racing and shit, then we would stay underground for some time longer (could be a good thing). maybe ppl will realize what freeskiing is about and its just another step up the latter. or it could be anywhere inbetween.

i agree with cko. Amped 2 is just ridiculously good, SSX the snowboard game had like 1 minute of fun and then it was just stupid, "lets just 1000 fee, undo our dindings do some kickflips then redo ours bindings with time to spare." I just think it is very inrealistic and i hope it dosent give people the wrong impression on what skiing is today. i mean any SSX with snowboarding, it just made snowboarding look stupid and fools on the hill. It was unrealistic and stupid in my opinion. It only is a game, and sure, it could
help skiing, but i know i wont buy it. It sells millions because of the little kids who dont care about what sport it is and jsut think its something to do, they arnt actually gunna be like "oh i wanna ski" I dont know, id rather support Jibberish. I say it be published. Anyway what im getting at is, EA games makes big selling games, i hope it dosent come out wth the wrong impression because alot of people will be playing it and if it is crap, then ill be very dissapointed.

as soon as i read this i was like oh sick, no more complaining. what hypocrites, this is exactly what we want and now you are all complaining again? Think of it from a marketing standpoint... why release a strictly skiing game when the only other one was a huge flop? plus, even if this game blows, its a start for the future. remeber the first cool boders? remeber street sk8er for playstation? those games blew, but look at games now. youve got amped 2 which i think we can all agree is sick. and the Tony Hawk games which are a huge step up from the original "skate or die" video game. there needs to be a start, you cant expect it to be good right off the bat.

i just wish it was amped instead of ssx cuz i saw the vid for ssx 4 and it looks kinda gay with the fools wearing prepy sweaters and the way the guy skis. The amped games are sick, they should make a ski game the exact same way they made the first two ampeds, except skiing instead of boarding. I'll probably buy the ssx game anyways but it'll probably kinda suck, especially for those who aren't particularly into freeskiing like we are.

Haha street sk8r. That was for Playstation and was probably more unrealistic then SSX has been with its triple front flips while the skateboard is doing shuvits underneath. I don't think that brough down skateboarding, and THPS came out some time after. GO SSX.

Here is a little article I found on Amped 3, if you are too lazy to read it, it might be one of the launching titles for Xbox 360. And no, it won't be for the current Xbox.

Amped Again?
Microsoft's short-lived XSN proved that sports games are not only hard to make, but that EA will dominate whatever sport you try your hand at. That's not to say they're not worth it, but you'd better be it for the long haul -- and be prepared to take some lumps. Amped 1 and 2 were beautiful, sleek games, and worth having if you owned an Xbox, but somewhere down the line, extreme sports took a nosedive. But did Amped?

We've learned that Microsoft may very well be in the works with Amped 3, but not for Xbox, for Xbox 2. Perhaps even as a launch title. The news comes in that a pro snowboarder involved with the game worked on about half of Amped 3 for Xbox before it was canned. Microsoft allegedly scrapped the Xbox version and restarted Amped 3 for Xbox 2, and is in production for it right now. Microsoft of course has not officially announced anything, and did not have a comment.

i don't expect to see a ski only game in the next 5 years. My only hope for an amped style game would be a game that merged skiing and snowboarding, because they really are essentially the same thing.

problem is that i doubt the amped creators would put in skiing, since it would turn off "core" snowboarders, which is probably a lot of their market.

as long as ssx4 has more "newschool" tricks than daffys etc than i don't see how you could complain. i've got a broken wrist right now and half the time when people ask me how i broke it i'm tempted to say snowboarding because if i say skiing they'll assume i hit a tree. anything that helps the new image of the sport is a plus in my book.
