The tittle dosent lterally mean what im saying. I mean more about the compitition scence. In a skiing comp, all i see is like switch 10s, i mean im not saying its nothing to do, i think its sick that its going down so often, but when every trick is a switch 10 and hucked spins, kinda gets old. I mean in this one snowboard comp, a 180 took 1st. I think thats sick that it was more about style then how many times you can spin around in one jump. And i know some kids are gunna say "snowboarding is gay"
and "shut up" but i mean most style evolved from sowboarding.....not as much anymore but i mean i think the snowboarding comp scence is killing it with style, and im not saying skiing isnt, it just seems these days if you spin around more times than another guy then ou will get a better score. I dont know, i hope atleast some ppeople can see my point of view on this because i know most will just trash me.
i agree with you man, slower more technical spins. The same with rails. 810's are cool its just totally not practical. hey lets put a 100 foot gap in between the rail so we can slide about 2 inches of rail.
i see what your saying, and it is like that in competitions, but first of all, in what snowboard competition did a 180 take first? and also, it only like that in comps. Why do you think pollard is known as like one of the most insane skiiers out there (besides his Big mt skills) , cuz hes just doing HUMONGOUS 180's and 3s and other smaller spins.
-Your lost on MLK??? RUNNNNN RUUUUNNN the MEDIA is there RUUUUUNNNN.
- ah Ballet, men wearing pants so tight you can tell what religion they are.
at the winter x, u basiccly had to do a 1080 to even possibly podemium and anti autti did back to back and he won but i dont think there was any way u could of won with doin a 1080, but dumonts HUGGEEEE 540 is pretty sick and its a somewhat slow rotation
shaun whites winning slopestyle run didn't have all slow spins he threw a variation of things like cab 9 back 9 cab 3 and some other stuff. i think there will be alot of that next year in skiing...hopefully anyways cuz its pretty sick looking when a skiier or snowboarder can bring the 2 together.
sounds right...a switch 10 followed by a floaty 5 or 1...also...there needs to be some old school shit going down, how about a switch 10 followed by a superman frontflip daffy, now that takes the cake. I think the only way competitions won't become huckfests more in the future is to incoprate more of the old school stuff...screamin semens are making a comeback...can anyone say double daffy backflip 180? that would be cool...now someone just needs to break into the scene with old school style...
"Holy shit, did you see that tweaked out pencil! That was insane, that guy really knows how to rip."
Watch that video on that european site of the Us Open, just use the search bar for the video. You see two amazingly amazingly sick 5's from Schiller, and that infamous zero by Laurent. With different flips and spins from differnt people. As the competion continued, more and more switch 10's got thrown, and different style flips and slower spins got thrown out the window, and the style got uglier.
I would much rather see 5's and 7, and mabey a 9 or two, and incorperate more flips like flat's and bios too. It'll will hopefully come in time.
I was really appalled by some of the stuff I saw at the Masters last weekend. Here we have Orage and Mammoth creating a sick, slow speed jib course and then I see a bunch of skiers skipping multiple features to get speed to throw 9s and double backs.
I know some people have said that it was all done in jest but come on, why the hell are skiers like rory bushfield allowed to ski in this kind of comp while riders like JF Houle are left out as alternates? Let's not even start on Salomon's decision to leave out Iannick (his poaching and follow-cam runs were better than a lot of the competitors).
I don't think there's a lack of style or riders that 'get it' (or get my view of what I'd like to see in skiing), but I think at least in the case of the Masters it's a function of the people running these companies not knowing what the hell is going on. We have a ton of sick ams that have grown up with style as THE important thing in skiing but they're constantly over-shadowed by guys that keep getting support even though they just huck themselves to death.
I give props to Dynastar and Armada for feilding teams that didn't just flip or spin to win. The Masters has the potential to be the style comp that everyone wants, we just have to stop inviting the huckers.
OK... This isn't anything against snowboarders, but we charge harder than them, we hit bigger jumps, and there is not one snowboarder that can spin a cork 630 onto a rail. Even my friend thats a really good snowboarder agrees with me. They can kick our asses too, like I saw a snowboarder drop from a helicopter 150 up or something like that, it was high. But if you compare them, its in the skiers favor.

looking at this thread title, i was reay to be pissed off, but i completely agree. it shouldn't be about the biggest spin. they should at least have one contest where style is the winning element.
i know snowboarders had some shit like that, you could'nt spin over 5 or you pretty much lost all points. that's a comp i would love to see. then all the skiers who prefer style over hucking would get a chance to be on a podium.

This is a great thread. Quite possibly one of the best I've seen posted. And as for skiing being ahead of snowboarding progression, I don't agree. I think they are both progressing at the same pace. Have you seen any of the new snowboard movies. I watched a few the other night for shits and giggles and holy shit. They're throwing down as hard as skiers for sure. Skiing and snowboarding are so much alike, but people like you are causing the divide. As for comps, I agree that slopestyle should have variations between big spins and slow steezy shit. But as for big air comps, I would rather see someone throw a huge corked 3 with great style than see someone spin to win.
I totally agree and have been preaching this for a while now...
But snowboarding is being influenced by us now. Watch the comps from this year, so much spinning and hucking in snowboarding now. And I blame skiing for it.
ya man thats the way im trying to get the comps around were i am (which last season was 2 for skiers).....but i can already see it going into a huckfest.....thats ok once and a while but yes it should be 80%style. thats why i dont just huck myeself and actually try to prefect shit.
it usually helps when it is judged by a skier or all skiers that way they now what should win and what should be thrown back.....like in my mind a smooth unnaty 3 critical should beat a hucked 7 anyday.
D BREES 101 CULT and TDOT cults JOIN THEM BOTH TODAY
i don't think skiers should flatter themselves by thinking that we're ahead of snowboarding and that we're influencing them. ok, maybe they are throwing some bigger tricks but it's definatly not becuase of us. watch afterlame, josh dirksen says he couldn't care less if he ever spun a 900 again. they just don't care about the big spins, it's all about style.
