But where do you draw the line with genres? With the number of genres today, no artist can be grouped into just one. Many singers who are considered emo are also hardcore and punk and alternative ect. And to top it off, no one can agree to certain definitions of each genre, everyone has a different interpretation of them.
When a new genre is made, it is made by a creator
. That creator then defines the sound for that genre. For example..there are MANY metal genres...all are different than eachother and all have there defined reasons for being entitled the way they are. A genre can't be interpreted as it is a specific sound of a type of music. Something like that is based on fact.
And I don't think you even know what the hell hardcore is if you are saying its emo. My god you are so far from reality that it hurts. Hardcore/Math is SOOOOO fucking different than emo and if you know what they were you would NEVER get them mixed up.
Go download The Chariot or The Black Dhalia Murder for some nice Math/Hardcore, and then compare that to Motion City Soundtrack, Park, or Armor For Sleep. NOTHING alike.
Every band also sort of chooses there sound and puts themself in a genre. A band chooses to be Emo or chooses to be Power Metal. With that said, they inherit that sound. There may be minor innovations..but unless they are totally trying to create a new genre of music, you should be able to deviate what type of sound it is.
