and hes a transition pope. they chose him to lead for a short amount of time, so they can find a better pope that will last a long time like JP2

Don't know much about this character but I'd have to say my prediction is that he'll divide rather than unite. Conservative thinking/action will not help the church unite all of its culturally different followers. Tolerance is the way.

either way, i think the catholic church loses, beit a conservative or liberal in power: the conservative will continue to tick the rest of the world, mainly europe, off as it already is, and will not attract any new believers (this is also aided by a 78 year old pope), and it will keep all of the things, as unbiblical that they may be, and not vhange them, like the no contraception rule.
but, if its a liberal is in power, he may compromise the church to the point where it is just a farce, and tick most people off anyways.

either way, the Chruch loses...

It's not really that surprising that they chose a 78 year old Pope, consdiering the fact that JPII had one of the longest terms... One reason they might have chose Ratzinger is because they know he will most likely have a short term, being 78. You know?

Whats to say that Germany was wrong? Part of losing a war means the loser gets the blame, but both sides intentionally bombed civilians. Shouldn't the british soldiers have not dropped the bombs on German cities and shouldn't the Americans not dropped atomic bombs on Japanese cities? Don't get me wrong I think Hitler was an evil man, but both sides commited atrocoties, and felt they were "right" in doing it at the time.

This is just arguing for the sake of arguing... the holocaust was pretty fucking awful. Hiroshima was bad, but nowhere near the holocaust. War is war, but the holocaust was an atrocity not even directly connected to the war that Hitler inflicted on his own people.

It all matters in what you believe in, hitler forced alot of germans, even non german to kill people for stupid reasons, people were tortured for scientific research. But some people believe that what the United states is doing like going into countries like Iraq to find one dude, but in the way killing thousands is wrong, and some say its right.
I think what hitler did was wrong, and obviously other countries are going to fight back when he someone like him almost took all of europe.

The Pope was actually a helper during the war, he didn't actually fire the AA guns. He was barely out of basic training.

He didn't take part in the Holocaust, he fought for his country just like thousands of Christian American, British, and French soldiers did.

shut up with the nazi talk. don't just read a headline and jump all over it without knowing any facts.
i would have like to see someone a little more open minded be elected, but the goal of the church is to uphold it's tradition and with the state of our culture now they must feel that someone strong needs to stand up and not compromise on the big issues. someone who is against rock and roll seems a little excessive though.

yea, i was missinformed, actually, the official stance of the catholic church is still that we protestants are heretics. sorry bout the mix up. but yea, i can't see him doing as good a job as John Paul II did, since he is almost as old as him when he died...
